BRO starts clearing snow from Manali-Leh highway

MANALI, MARCH 23
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has started the snow-clearing operation on the 475-km Manali-Leh road at Rahla, 27 km from here, today. Lt Col Mayank Mehta said massive efforts were being made to open the Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul-Spiti district, in May. A puja was performed by BRO officers and jawans at Gulaba. He further said four snow-clearing teams were deployed for opening of the 222-km Manali-Sarchu section, with the help of snow-cutters, dozers and JCB machines - here is the link to the news - http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/him...ay/381230.html

Met department predicts snowfall in Himachal Pradesh from March 28
Shimla: The local meteorlogical office, on Sunday, predicted rain and snowfall at isolated places in the higher hills of Himachal Pradesh from Tuesday, even as dry weather prevailed in most parts of the state.

Walk the apple route in Himachal
In a bid to harness tourism potential of the state, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has decided to launch two new packages, which is a first for the hill state. The corporation will conduct the first Apple Blossom Tour in the second week of April, with HPTDC Deluxe buses covering the area from Shimla to Kotgarh. The tour will include areas like Matyana, Shilaroo, Kandyali up to Kotgarh. Air India Kullu-Delhi fare hike has flyers, hoteliers fuming
Kullu, March 27
The Air India has hiked the airfare between Kullu and Delhi with the onset of the summer season. Earlier, the airline used to charge a maximum fare of around Rs 16,200 while now the fare has been increased to over Rs 18,500 for one-way travel. Air connectivity for Shimla under UDAN
New Delhi, March 30
Shimla in Himachal Pradesh and Bhatinda in Punjab would get air connectivity as the government today announced regional aviation routes and airlines after the first round of bidding under the Regional Connectivity Scheme – UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik). During an event here, Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapati Raju and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha issued letters of award to five airline companies for their 27 proposals in the first phase of the scheme. Flights to Shimla may resume in 15 days

Chances of resumption of flights to Shimla seem to have brightened after a gap of four-and-a-half years as a test flight of Alliance Air landed at the Jubbarhatti airport today, carrying high ranking officials from Air India, Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Civil Aviation. Fresh snow crippled normal life in Lahaul-Spiti and all internal roads had been blocked again to vehicular traffic today. There was no respite from biting cold for tribals who found it tough to move from one place to other due to closure of all link roads. Cloudburst damages shops, NH in Chamba

Delhi- D’sala AI flight from today
Palampur, April 14
Air India will start one more flight between New Delhi and Dharamsala from tomorrow. The flight will leave Delhi at 3 pm daily and reach Dharamsala at 4.40 pm. It will leave Dharamsala again at 5 pm and reach Delhi at 6.40 pm. With the launch of the new evening flight, the number of Air India flights on this air circuit will now rise to two. Massive efforts are being made to open the 13,050-ft Rohtang Pass by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). A BRO official said that till today, the snow removal machines had cleared snow up to Rani Nullah, about 45 km from here, on the Manali-Leh highway. Old machinery hampers snow clearing in Lahaul

Mandi, April 17
Use of old machinery is becoming a hindrance in snow clearing operations on various link roads in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti. At least 40 per cent roads remain closed due to slow pace of work particularly in Miyar valley, Chokhang, Yoche, Kaardang and in Spiti. SHIMLA/CHANDIGARH: Tourists thronging Himachal Pradesh to escape the hot weather of plains are finding very less respite as hills too are sizzling during the day time. Shimla on Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, which was 6.1 degrees above normal.
