Himachal Pradesh in July Aug?

Hi,

I've just got inspired to go back to India in the next two weeks. Haven't visited Himachal Pradesh before.

Is the monsoon happening at this time? How bad is it? Can it be avoided? Will there be other travellers around or will I be stuck in no-traveller zone. And if so, would this be nice? Is anyone there at the moment and planning to stick it out through monsoon?

Alternatively, for all you India addicts, is there anywhere else on the sub-continent where monsoon could be avoided at this time? Or somewhere you'd LIKE to spend it?

Would probably head south to Goa September.

Your thoughts please!

Thankyou!

Avoid monsoon??

Ladakh
Rajasthan!!

You'd have company in Himachal, but you'd have occasional landslides slowing your travel down on interior roads (beyond manali/shimla) as well!

Hello,

Goa is september is a good choice. You might have the occasional rain but the weather will be nice and the place will be not be very crowded.

Dharamshala has its share of hardcore travelers throughout the year. You will find some tourists in July and August. I might be going for a weekend myself in July end.

Enjoy your stay. Try staying at Kailwood Guest House in Mcleodgunj. It is my favourite place.

Cheers,
Harsha
