Himachal in Nov -09

Dear All

I plant to visit HP in Nov end( 25 th onwards ) for a week with my wife and 4 year old kid. Snow is priority number one . I have gone through all the previous threads and it seems like dec end onwards is the season for snow in easily accessible places ( shimla, manali, Dalhousie ) .I have been to Manali ,shimla once so want to avoid that this time but from threads it seems like manali is the only place where there is a remote chance to see snow in november end.Is there any place nearby to Dalhousie where we will have chance to play with snow . Please suggest some place.

i think if you have time then you can go to uttarakhand(rishikesh) for river rafting. its full of adventure and also you can stay in overnight camping in shivpuri that will give you maximum memories .. and also yopu can can visit chopta for snow you can find snow aroud chopta..
.. and in H.P you can go to chail and renuka ji .. and please tell us your dates so thst we can help you to make good plans...

If snow is priority then Manali is the place. In Dalhousie, upper reaches Dyan Kund might have fresh snow.

Vikram, Sripraksh Thanks.

Vikaram
to be exact i am looking for a vacation starting 25 th november onwards and before 8 th December.

Sriprakash
I have been to manali in May and even in May i found snow around rohtang so i think in Nov it is pretty sure if i go to nearby places around manali i may find snow but about dalhousie i do not know, As you mentioned Dyan Kund .. Is there fair chance ? ( i know it all depends on weather and global warming and so on ...) but still would love to know opinion of you and others....

I don't think you would have snow around Dalhousie around Nov-end. In case you're not willing about Manali, the plausible choice is to get to Shimla and proceed towards inner Kinnaur/Spiti Valley (Kaza/Komic/Nako/Chandertal) unless you see snow.

You have to be open about your itinerary and keep a day or two in reserve for unforeseen situations. Your car driver/Travel agent should also be willing!

Happy travelling!

I'll say for snow either you make trip to manali or for Chitkul or Nako. IN dalhousie u'll not get snow also keep a check on weather condition in Nov around the time u want 2 visit.

I think Nako at Nov-end with 4 yr old kid would be tough! Me and wifey went Nako in 2006 mid-Nov and had to stay in a person's home, many of them run homestay kinda stuff! Not impressive at all, esp. when you've 4 yr kid with you.

I wouldn't do it unless things have improved drastically at Nako. We were supposed to go to the open areas to be used as loo - and wisely so, as they didn't have running water at that time of the year. Luckily, our stay was for a night, and we didn't need it!

We got snow at Chitkul (2006 Nov), and the locals were discussing that it snowed a bit early. Last year (2008) it didn't snow till very late Dec/Jan, so no guarantee.

Not quite sure IŽd call it an improvement , but in 2007(?) there were three places, concrete slabs , with identical standard including attached bathroom.

OP is taking a gamble when making the whole trip revolve around available snow. Last year the ski championships in Manali were very nearly cancelled , and Shimla hasnŽt had a white Christmas for a number of years now. Snow can come down by the tons any day from now , and disappear as fast as a guy asking for a house boat in Srinagar : day temperatures up in Leh remained above zero in to December as I remember it .

One alternative , closer to Shimla , would be Kalpa at 2800 meters. Impressive views , with or without snow.
