Hi All, I'm new to site--
Could really use advice and knowledge on travelling to Himalayas! Will be in India for the first time ever, soon- probably around MAY 15th. I'll be with my aunt on business in Punjab, and plan to travel Himalayas after that for one week, maybe more. --I need recommendations on best route for approximately 1 week travel in Himalayas. I am young, outdoorsy type female. I am on a limited budget so I don't unnecessarily want to pay outrageous $$ (quoted over $100/day) to travel this area on a set tour. Although if there is a trekking/tour company that is recommended please let me know. - I am open to and seeking other travelers with like interests (preferably other foreign, especially females) to go with, if possible. -I am NOT looking for men to date, so DON'T try to hit on me. -Recommendations on what size backpack/luggage to bring for my trip- I can leave unnecessary items with friends in Punjab. Should I get a big Internal frame pack (5500 CI)??? Or should I bring various sizes, etc? -What should I wear in India? especially travelling in heat of May and in Himalayas? I am female, but do NOT like to wear skirts- what is appropriate and comfortable/cool? -I originally wanted to travel with Dharamsala in my itinerary- but from reading posts, it seems travelers don't think it all that special-- so please tell me-- where and what IS special?? Also could use tips on places to visit in Delhi and Punjab-- but I should make that a whole new post. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your help!!!!! |

Places in Himachal - follow the Chamba-Bharmour-Khajjiar-Dalhousie route. Chamba is accessible from Pathankot in Punjab.

See DHARAMSHALA is almost plain...but MANALI is good.
You have many options to reach MANALI. You can get VOLVO BUS from Delhi to Manali, then you can get 2x2 bus from Chandigarh also. About travel: If you are alone-then do not travel alone in taxi and cabs. Better use bus and take your normal precuations. RUCKSACK: Yes-that will be better. You can wear halfpant, jeans, shorts, longjohn s etc while you are there. Basic rule is DO AS ROMANS DO. Pack extra cotton t-shirts,goggles and basebal cap, 2. A warm clothing is required as temp. goes down without any hint. 3. Water proof layer is recommended-right now while I am typing these lines-there is snowfall going on at higher reaches !! 4. Undergarments should be of cotton. 5. Torch with spare cells and camera with spare cells ABOVE ALL-pack all your packing in some polythene bag. This is to make them dry when your sack is in rain... |
