Help for Kaza
Help for Kaza
I am almost finalised with 14 students to do tribal loop (anticlockwise) in 8 days from shimla to chandigarh. (22june- 3july incl travel from mumbai) it is little hectic... but we dont have time later.. will book train tickets in 20 days or so...maybe more students can join. travel by tavera. following features and questions
1.staying at hotel Dalzeil after entering by KLK-SML mail (6 am-kalka dept. Hopefully the express will wait for HWH-KLK mail)
2.next day leaving early (5am) for SANGLA. No halt at Sarahan, would visit the place in 2-3 hrs incl. pheasantry there. would lunch at sarahan. Same day will do Kamru fort. Hotel prakash
3.sangla: day: any possible meadow walks. Afternoon- chhitkul (for lunch). leisure for 2-3 hrs, then ride to Kalpa, if possible reach by sunset for Kinnaur kailash view. its july so sunset will be late (7pm). hotel aucktong GH
4. for the day, visit roghi (?) after lunch, say 3 pm, leave for tabo monastry, reach by dinner, stay @ monastry guest house
5. Monastery day. If possible do pin vally upto Mud lake. 4 monastries. Rest at Kaza (?)
6. kaza-kunzum-chandratal (start-walk)- return- climb up kunzum backtrack to losar. stay::PWD GH
7. losar-manali, and other sight seeing.
8. manali-kullu-chandigarh
QUESTIONS:
*How long will it take to reach sangla from shimla, consider max. 3 hrs at sarahan (1 hr darsan 1 hr lunch 1 hr pheasantry)
*What can be done in sangla in morning time till say 11-12 am? starting from dawn?
*above question for Kalpa. in june end can we expect ripe apples hanging?
*tabo-dhankar-pin (mud)-kaza. how long (hrs) will this take; if its just a 15-20 min break at mud and return. doable in say 6 hrs?
* is day 6 fine? if its needed, is there option to tent at Chandratal, expecting road not to be open??(29 jun). we would walk/climb the route, irrespective of whether road will be openo r closed. FOR chandratal tent do we have to HIRE from Kaza? if yes, Pl provide me necessary contact nos. thanks in advance...

Shimla to Sarahan would take atleast 6-7 hours.
Check Kshil's trip report done around the same time last year. Trip Report - Kinnaur Spiti Lahaul - June 2010

about kaza, does anyone know of a good budget place which can accomodate 20 people at ease? Also if there are any tent-rentals at Kaza, may I get the details?

budget is per person upto 200-300 Rs. HPTDC is little high-budget for us
I found Sakyas abode. seems decent and basic.
if we wish at the last moment, at chandrataal if possible we would need only 2-3 tents, and maybe a toilet-tent. not all of the 14 may be willing to stay there, perhaps due to cold.

Hi! The HPTDC hotel is at least 4 times more than your budget, and Sakya Abode is also like double, unless they can give you some special fare, which I doubt, but you can try. There are still places where you can stay for 200-300 Rs in Kaza,in a couple you can also spend less, but they are indeed basic. For the tents you can check www.spitiholidayadventure.com and talk to Lotey, the owner and manager, mobile number and email in the website, and see what he has to say.
no I mean 200-300 Rs PER PERSON. we can cram in as many as 5 people in each room. so something like 600 rs/3persons; 1000 rs/4persons. By the way Lotey's fone is out of coverage area. Can that person also help us in tent for chandratal? Il try his number maybe once in alternate days, right now theres no haste. but he seems an important person....
Hi! Then ou'll have no problem, most guest houses in Kaza charge between 300 and 500 Rs for a double, and you can get excellent rooms for that money.Mobile phone service can be erratic in Spiti, specially in bad weather, but generally it works fine I can assure you. If somebody can help you with tents there, that's Lotey.
Hi
Had mailed lotey. He called me himself.
Gave me two options- tent with all facilities+food, toilet everything in 4 digit price per person
And ONLY 2+1 people tent for 500/tent.
Il mostly try with something in between these two, as we cant pay that high as first option, and cant make acco this basic as 2nd one (as we wont carry even sleeping pads, just blankets, bodywarmers, and tarps).
He also has his own hotel at kaza and said he can accomodate all of us easily in that price range.
So the main tension of chandratal is gone!
Hope so all turns fine in kinnaur region; firstly the schedule, and then especially deals at hotel prakash (sangla) and aucktong GH (kalpa).
Thanks, voyager!

kalpa is just a village so is Kaza but kaza is also HQ os spiti division
For kalpa you will find better facilities at Reckong peo
