heating and electricity in Himachal winter

Hey people,

I will be visiting Himachal in December this year. I understand it can get quite cold.

I wanted to know what sort of heating facilities should I "expect" the guesthouses to have?

Is it likely that a guesthouse located in an area where it snows will have heating in the rooms / communal room (if there is such a thing) / only in kitchen? maybe only the really "touristy" (in mainstream places e.g. Mcleodganj) and/or expensive ones will have heating of any kind?

And what about electricity?
I was advised by someone to actually buy a heater myself and carry it around, plugging it in the room.
what do you think?

Cheers

IŽm pleasantly surprised every day the electricity works in HP , I certainly wouldnŽt bank on it for keeping warm at night. The cold is a bit hyped though , barely below zero IŽd say.

Depends on the place you stay , most decent hotels / guesthouses will have a heater or atleast be willing to provide one if asked , other than off beat places Himachal does not have electricty problems.
