Getting bus tickets in Himachal Pradesh
Hello everyone,
In two weeks me and my boyfriend are going to India for 6 weeks, i'm so excited! Thanks to this wonderful website we were able to put together a nice itinerary. We've already booked all our traintickets, but we're planning on doing several legs of the journey by bus as well. The Lonely Planet only gives the amount of hours that the journeys should take and I couldn't find information on this site for these specific routes. The bus journeys we are planning to do are the following: 1. July 22nd From Amritsar to Daramsala/McLeod (6 hours) 2. July 27th From Daramsala to Manali (10 hours) 3. August 2nd From Manali to Shimla (10 hours) 4. August 6th Ftom Shimla to Rishikesh/Haridwar (14 hours) Or an alternative would be to take a bus from Manali to Haridwar and skip Shimla. So for each of these journeys I would like to know whether we'll be able to get tickets for the bus if we'd try to buy them only 3 to 4 days ahead when we arrive at the city we want to leave from again. If this is tricky, is there a way to book tickets online? And for the long journeys, will there be sleeper busses running? Sorry for asking so much questions but I wouldn;t know any other place to get them aswered...Thanks so much ![]() |

Your best bet is www.redbus.in. It lets you book bus tickets online for many destinations.

Yes you will be able to book tickets in advance once your reach the city. No sleeper buses are allowed in the hills. You will be traveling by ordinary state run buses (HRTC) within and outside the state. Private buses are available within cities in the state though. Manali to Haridwar will be a very long journey. Better to come down to Shimla and then take a bus to Dehradun or Haridwar.

Thank you for your replies
I've looked at the redbus site, seems like a nice site. They have tickets for busses going from dharamsala to manali, so I might book them through this site. And it's good to know that there are still tickets 3 or 4 days in advance, this will make everything less stressful. Thanks again! ![]() |
