Penelope if it rains a lot then the mountain roads can get landslides. But then rain has become pretty unpredictable and when you are there you would know what are the road conditions like. But why this hurry on this stretch? McLeod Ganj is quaint and charming.

My itinerary is such:
23rd - 24th Jul Delhi (taking the night bus out to Manali) 24th Jul - 1 Aug (lunch) Manali - have a workshop to attend 1 Aug (pm) - 8 Aug (pm) FREE I thought of packing something quick in between before I head back to Delhi to spend some time with friends and do a quickie photo shoot for a NGO. Thanks Mridula - you name sounds familiar - I think I follow your blog. ![]() |

Hi Penelope...
I would advise that you take an extra day to spend in Mcleodgunj. There is so much to see that one or two days would not justify the place. Things to do: Main temple monastery Tibet museum in the temple compound Norbulingka institute Bhagsu Waterfalls & Shivas cafe A day trip to Triund I would suggest that you stay there for 2nd, 3rd and leave for delhi on 4th evening from Dharamshala bus station. They have some really nice buses and you will be in Delhi by 7 am on 5th August. Places to stay: Kailwood Guest house Shambala Hotel Chinar Lodge Hotel Green I may have some contact numbers from my previous trips there so I will see if I can find any of them and will pass them on to you. BTW,I read your blog and it is pretty interesting, especially the map. ![]() Cheers, Harsha |

Triund will be a good experience.
If you wish to stay there, you can book the Forest Rest House.

Hi folks...
I’ve finally finalized my trip plan Starting from Delhi – Chandigarh on 24th night by Bus Chandigarh to Dharamshala / Mcleodganj on 25th morning by Taxi 25th evening – 28th early morning in and around Mcleodganj 28th morning Mcleodganj – Chandigarh by Taxi 28th evening Chandigarh – Delhi by bus / shatabdi Any hotel suggestions..?? our budget is Rs. 500 - 800 per night... Since we have 3 nights with us, we would like to spend at least 1 at Triund and do camping. Is it possible to do advance booking to stay at one of the camps..?? we are 3 ppl (myself, my sister and a girlfriend)… if yes then what are the approximate charges for a night camp…? Thanks..!!! |

Almost all the trekking agencies would book a room or tent for you at Triund, for the rooms they were charging around 300 rupees, food cost would be extra.
I stayed in very run of the mill kind of hotels and would not recommend them ![]() |

@Mridula -
are these tants safe for gals...? i hope you know what i mean... and do you think it'll be a problem to find a hotel if we just arrive at Mcleodganj without any prior bookings.. a friend just returned from there and told me that it is so crowded these day... |

It certainly would be crowded but we went in last week of May and got a hotel without booking.
There was a girl staying in the tents on her own, young and pretty from Switzerland and I don't think there was any problem. She said after her first time (this was her third visit) she had no problems and knew how not to attract attention. ![]() |
