Sorry Punk Soul. In an other post I had given the same number with another one Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) Ph: 2700006 Timing: 0900 - 1700 to a post and he replied that it helped in getting information. May be he tried the other number.

hi all,

what a lovely travel forum this is !!! So helpful !!

I wish to travel to Dharamshala next weekend and wanted to know about some cheap (but clean) hotels/hostels.

Some other questions :
1. Do HPTDC guys make all the tickets available online or they keep some for over the counter sales?
2. If am not getting HPTDC volvo tickets are there other Volvo operators to Dharamshala?
3. What kind of bus is TATA A/C for a 12 hour journey (seats are available online)?

Cheers.

Dear ashukkb,

I have read the posts before posting my queries and have re-read it on your request but couldnt find answers to my questions. The cheapest hotel suggested (Takhyil Guest House) has a current tarriff of about 700 bucks. Moreover I could not find answers to the last three questions as well. Correct me if am wrong.

Cheers

The tentative travel dates are - leaving from Delhi 9th and stay in HP for 3 or 4 days.

1. Will there be anyone who is willing to join us? Anyone is welcome!
2. Do you think these places can be taken in just 3 or 4 days?
3. Any tips/suggestions regarding hotels to stay and places to see?
Only two days are sufficient in Mclodganj.
First Day you reach there, search for hotel, rest in your hotel and then see the Dalai lama Temple. See the night life at Mclodganj chowk.
Second day you go to Bhagsunath Temple and Bhagsu waterfall which may take around 3-4 hourse, because Bhagsu waterfall is very scenaric place. You can also go to Dal Lake from Mclodganj, you can take auto to reach there. their charges are fixed. you can see the church near Mclodganj.
I stayed there in a Guest House (I forget the name) and they charges only Rs. 250/- for a day. It was a good place. The Guest House is opposite to Takhyil Guest House near Post Office, Mclodganj

You can not books tickets of HPTDC buses on line. You can book tickets of HRTC buses online.
HRTC also has volvo buses.

Hey thanks a ton folks. I got my tickets booked. Going by an ordinary bus and coming back by volvo.

Dharamkot seems a nice option for those travelling rough. Does any one have a contact no. of any such person/family whom I can call in advance for lodging in Dharamkot ?

One more thing, are there companies in Mcleodganj which can arrange for a day's overnight camping at Triund peak ?

Cheers !

Thanks for the above. I was looking for a really COMPACT Dharamsala-McLeod Ganj trip.

I'm traveling from Manali and hoping to catch a bus on 1st Aug 09(after lunch) so I can make it to Dharamsala by 9-10pm. Is this possible?

I plan to put a night in Dharamsala (1 Aug) and proceed to McLeod Ganj the next day (2nd Aug), do the local sites, stay a night and go to Bhagsu the next morning (3rd Aug) before proceeding to Pathankot or Chakki Bank to take the night Jammu Radj train to Delhi (3rd Aug arriving 4th Aug in Delhi).

Please advise if I am too ambitious.

You could even walk up on your own and ask for a room or a tent around. Most of the agencies would be able to do this for you in McLeod Ganj, as there are shops up there and they have rooms, food and blankets. If you want a name you could try Skyline to begin with but do look around.
