Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj

Hi -

My friend and I are planning a trip to Dharamshala, Mcleod Ganj in June for about 3-4 days. We are based in Pune and are traveling to Delhi and planning to go to these places from Delhi.

The tentative travel dates are - leaving from Delhi 9th and stay in HP for 3 or 4 days.

1. Will there be anyone who is willing to join us? Anyone is welcome!
2. Do you think these places can be taken in just 3 or 4 days?
3. Any tips/suggestions regarding hotels to stay and places to see?

Mcleodganj- u'll luv it...

Hi!
I'd been to McLeodganj in June 2007 and I simply loved the place...i agree that 3-4 days are sufficient....
Bhagsu falls are very famous and do try visiting. Also, the local Dalai Lama temple is really serene and peaceful in the evenings. You'll get a wonderful view from there. While in Dharmsala, don't miss the Norbulingka Institute.
I stayed at Takhyil Guest House on Jogibara Road...it's a fantastic clean and tidy little place. very reasonable. I paid just 550 for that amazing cozy little room of mine. even the staff is good. Besides, Hotel Tibet and Chocolate Log are also good options.
If you luv Italian food, don't miss Nick's on the Bhagsu road. You'll fall in luv with the pizzas and the brownie! For authentic Chinese, try the restaurent at Hotel Tibet...I've heard an excellent report from many places, unfortunately couldn't make it to that place myself...:-(
So enjoy ur trip to Mcleodganj....

Three more hugely popular (and justifiably so) restaurants are Khana Nirvana, Xcite and Carpe Diem

Mantru - sorry about the late response.

My friend and I are taking an overnight train from New Delhi to Pathankhot. From there Dharamshala is a bus journey away.

Let me know if you need any more help! And

Hi Mantru

I have completed my trip to Dharamshala / Mcleodganj 10 days back. I was in almost same situation as you are now.

If you dont get a direct bus to Dharamshala, no need to worry...

* Board in any bus from Delhi to Chandigarh

* If it is a Haryana Roadways Bus it will drop you at Sec 17 ISBT Chandigarh

* From Sec 17 , you have to catch a local shuttle bus for sector 43 ISBT. or ask your bus cundctor if it is going to sector 43 ISBT.

* Catch a Bus to Kangra from Sec-43 ISBT (Chandigarh)

* From Kangra Bus you will get buses to Dharamshala in every 10 Minutes.

So if you get a bus for directly for Kangra, that will be good for you.

* Dharamshala to Mcleodganj is 20 minutes way in shared taxies or in Bus.

* Best place to stay is Dharamkot (upper Bhagsu) cheap and cool .

* Dont miss Triund treck if you are like trekking .

all the best

Hey

Try staying at the 'hunted hill house'. It's a cheap hotel but with awesome views! It's somewhere on Jogiwara Road...My stay there was worthwhile. Hope it helps!

I found Pinewood on the Jogiwara road pretty bad. No hot water in the lower rooms and no water at all apart from a few hours in the morning and evenings. Stay away.

Hello to everyone on this amazing knowledgebase. Before posting my below post i must confess that this platform has made my past travel experiences much easier as i've always taken a lot of help from this place... HATS OFF TO PPL BEHIND ALL THIS...

I think ashukkb's post serves my purpose too.. but i still have few queries...

1. Are there no direct buses for Dharamshala/Mcleodganj from Chandigarh...??
2. If "No" thn what is the frequency of buses from Chandigarh Sec 43/17 bus stand to Kangra...?? are there Delux buses avlbl early morning for Kangra..??
3. How much time does it take for Chandigarh - Kangra & Kangra - Dharamshala by bus.
4. What is the scene for Dharamshala/Mcleodganj - Chandigarh..??

I am planning to go to Dharamshala/Mcleodganj somewhere in the last week of June so do u guys think it is the rite time to do that..?? What if i'm planning a trip on my bike to this part..??
