Dharamsala/ McLeod Ganj -accommodation recommendats needed

hi all I am looking for budget accommodats for about 4 weeks in Dharamsala/McLeodGanj

purpose for my visit is get acquainted w/Buddhism, learn about Tibetan culture...

would like to spend under $400 USD (approx 19400 INR) for accomdats, I am one person and can make do w/basic if clean room

your recommendations?

I changed your title slightly CFP and the result is there are now a few threads already at the bottom of this page for you to scroll down to and take a look. McLeod Ganj is where you should stay, above Dharamsala, because the Tibetan Library, the Temple, Dalai Lama's residence etc. are all in this vicinity, and you can easily walk around to all these places.
You won't be able to walk to them if you are staying in Dharamsala itself.

I don't know if still available but Tara Guest House was a good choice for me one time - it was 4,000 rupees for one month for a nice, clean room with bathroom.

Also do a search within the Forum using 'McLeod Ganj" for your search words - there are some recent threads covering your question.

I see you are in Jaisalmer, I will be there the first two wks of December!

And couldn't be a better time to come here - presently it's too hot and humid for me, but that time is 'winter' and very pleasant.

Clean accomodation on Jogiwara Rd (and around)is easily available off peak season from 150 rupees. The best approach is to turn up and look around.

The cost you mentioned is when there are yoga programs oraganized at the center.

Check Post # 11 and Post # 14 in the below thread. Its not the best place....but clean and cheap and lovely scenary.

Just off Jogibara Road down the stairs to the Yongling School you will find Pink House and other buildings that rent by the week or month. You should be able to find a simple furnished room with a small kitchen and private bathroom for under 6000Rs or around $100 to $150.
If you want to stay somewhere higher end you could check with Pema Thang and see what sort of deal they will give you for a month.
There is lots of accommodation in McLeod Ganj and you can easily find a decent place to stay for a fraction of your budget.
One option is to stay in a guest house for the first few days and shop around for the place that best suits your needs.
If you happen to be visiting around the time of the Dalai Lama's teachings it is a good idea to book in advance as guest houses will fill up during that time.

Try the Green Hotel on Bhagsu Road. It was like Rs500 per night for a really clean room with wifi, 24hours hot water, and a killer view. the people there are friendly and the manager was willing to drop down to Rs350 a night because i stayed a week.

Also try Om Guest House, which is pretty much the same except down an alley in the southwest side off the square- amazing views, tidy rooms, quiet area. A gorgeous double room only set me back Rs350 for a night.
