delhi-dalhousie-manali-shimla-delhi

Hi to all...On 21st October we will reaching Agra at 8am we are planning to cover only Taj mahal & then we have booked tickets to Delhi train at 4pm.. We will reach Delhi by 8pm..
From there we will continue our journey from Delhi-Dalhousie-Manali-Shimla-Delhi by hiring tempo travels for entire trip(for 15membera).....so on 21st night around 8-9pm we will start our journey to Dalhousie....and our final day on 28th should be in delhi siteseeing , shopping and night return to our native at 11pm train...so total 6days we are planing to cover Dalhousie, kulumanali, shimla(if possible)..........
Our planned itinerary:
22nd & 23rd to cover Dalhousie & Khajjiar, 24th & 25th in manali & Rohtangpass... if possible 1day in Shimla & then return to Delhi (total 6days)
So please suggest the changes in above itinerary or suggest the 6days itinerary by avoiding day journeys.....
Thanks in advance

22 you will be tired its a long journey from delhi to dalhousie its better take a rest om that day
Rohtang pass may not be open to traffic by that time
itinerary involves lots of travel even within Himachal
Manali to Shimla 5-6 hours journey on curvy and very bad roads so each day you travel you probably wanna rest on that day unless you just wanna push really hard this to be cover everything enjoy less

Rohtang Pass will be opened. October is too early for Rohtang, but there may be no fresh snow.

I think your plan is far too hectic...you will simply be traveling most of the time, without getting a chance to enjoy any place properly. I would strongly suggest dropping one of the three places and give more time to the other two.

Perhaps you could reach Shimla on 22nd morning, spend a couple of days in Shimla, start on 23rd night and reach Manali on 24th morning. Spend next three days there, and start back on 27th evening so that you are in Delhi on 28th morning. As JINI has already poseted, you will need some rest on the day after the night travels..

Thank you Neeraj for reply...nature point of you as I heard that dalhousie is better than shimla & our main focus is nature, don’t want to visit any temples & all…………So kindly suggest the itinerary for 6days only in Dalhousie & manali.

Shimla is too commercialized anyway

In that case, you could plan to reach Dalhousie by 22nd. Spend the day in local sightseeing..there are some very nice walks around Dalhousie. it will also give you a chance to relax after the night's travel.

On 23rd, you can go for 1 day's trip to Khajjiar/Chamba as you already seem to have in your plan..

I am not aware of the travel options or time from Dalhousie to Manali, but i suppose you could reach Manali by 24th or latest 25th (please confirm this) ..Again i would suggest spend that day around the town, you could walk to the old town etc..

On next day, you can go to Rohtang side - its a standard one-day trip...and you will have to start back on 27th to get back to Delhi on 28th.

Hope this helps. Have a look at this for some further info on Dalhousie:

I'm afraid i wont be able to help you with the road directions..i went from Delhi to Pathankot via train, and then took a local bus to Dalhousie. (i think Delhi-Dalhousie at night should be doable). While returning from Manali to Delhi, i took the state transport volvo that left Manali at 4 pm and reached Delhi at 6 am next day. (so i know for sure that Manali-Delhi can be done at night). Do keep in mind though that these night travels can be pretty tiring..

I dont know the roads in that area, but am sure other folks on the forum can help you with precise directions

I have never heard about closing of Rohtang on Tuesdays or any other weekdays. Rohtang Pass isn't any zoo or market. There is a road that connects Leh and Lahaul to rest of India. Govt tries maximum to open it as late as possible. Last year it closed in first week of December.

Rohtang pass will be closed on tuesday for tourist vehicles
yes they dont allow non HP registered vehicle but you can get permit for that at SDM manali office

for the route from Dalhousie you will go through most probably Pathankot- Kangra -Jogindernagar- Mandi-Kullu-Manali thats what HRTC bus follow you can search google map for shorter route

P.S. yes its not a zoo or market but a road important to national security and people of Lahul thats why tourist which will just come one day and may come only next year are restricted for one day per week to facilitate the repair of unstable road so that army trucks and those who cross it for earning their livelihood and stock essential commodities before they get cut from rest of world for 6 months can travel peacefuliy all time
