Hello!

We are planning to have a family tour in 3rd week of May for about 10 nights from Mumbai to Delhi-Chandigarh-Shimla-Manali-Delhi. We are about seven adults and like to spend 2 nights in Chandigarh, 2 nights in Shimla and 4 to 5 nights in Manali and 2 nights for travelling between Mumbai and Delhi.

Our proposed plan is reaching Delhi by Mumbai Rajdhani at 8.30 a.m., then proceed to Chandigarh. Next day, Chandigarh local sightseeing. Next day travelling to Shimla and 2 nights in Shimla with nearby excursions. Then travelling to Manali and 4 days Manali local excursions.

So, our specific queries are –

1. While vehicle we have to choose for our tour – perhaps a SUV? While travelling back from Manali to Delhi, is it safe to travel at night in a car/SUV? If so, we can leave Manali for Delhi on the last night and reach Delhi next day morning and take a return flight to reach Mumbai on the same day.

2. Would it be fine to chalk out our detailed itinerary and car/SUV/bus and hotel bookings through “Himachalhotels.com”, so that we could have a comfortable, reliable, economical and enjoyable tour to Himachal Pradesh.

Our budget is about Rs.9000/- per person for Delhi to Delhi tour. Trust this would be alright.

Awaiting your valuable responses the soonest possible.

Thanking you a lot in anticipation.

1) Any vehicle is good for Delhi-Shimla-Manali road. It is safe to drive in night, depending on driver (If he fills sleepy then its dengerous). Otherwise you can opt for HPTDC/HRTC night volvo buses. They are safer.

2) I would suggest to do maximum train/bus journey. Take Chandigarh Jansatabdi to Chandigarh from Delhi on the date of yr arrival at Delhi. And toy train to Shimla. Take the service of guided tours offered by HPTDC at Shimla. You need not book any cab. Take a day or night bus (luxury) from Shimla to Manali. You do not need any cab for Manali local as autos are available. For Rohtang and other like places, HPTDC conducts organised tours and you can avail their service or book taxi locally. Return to delhi again by overnight Volvo.

For Hotel, book the same through himachalhotel for shimla and in Manali HPTDC Hotel Beas as economical.

Advice/comments requested please.

I would also request if some of the experienced and senior members can give any guidance on this. Need not be only specific to the questions therein, but can be generally also. How about hiring a vehicle from Chandigarh to Chandigarh (throughout the entire tour)? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hiring a Chadigarh - Chandigarh vehicle will be good. An innova should cost you Rs. 2500 or so per day.

this website does not have latest tariff of hotels.

Hiring the Cab by ur own will b lots cheaper, then through this website.

As said by DelhiWalla Chd to chd cab will b best.

Let me tell u as u r planning for 3week of may March 2nd week will b best for u 2 book. as Even HPTDC will revise its tariff by then.

me will be booking in same week of march (late to late) for tour of manali in 1st week of may

Thank you everyone. Such guidances from senior people like you are really very enlightening and helpful. Will expect some more such help.

By the way, can anyone guide as to how or with whom to book a vehicle from Chandigarh to Chandigarh when we are going on our own. Also, which of the HPTDC hotels are good and reasonable for a family group. Thanks a lot again.

u can travel at night in himachal if you see in the perspect of security. but you can miss lot of joy of travelling on those scenic routes.hired cab will be fine because you are 7 people this costs more or less same with volvo buses.
