Delhi-Chail-Narkanda-Kinnaur on 24th Jan 09

Hello Everyone,

I am planning a go on a trip to Kinnaur on 24th of Jan with my Santro Car. Here is the rough itinerary -

9AM on 24th Jan - Start from Delhi and reach Chail by 3-4PM. Night Stay at Chail.

25th Jan - Stay at Chail and local sight seeing.

26th Jan - start at 7AM from chail and reach Narkanda at Noon. Night stay at Narkanda.

27th Jan - start at 7AM from Narkanda to reach Kalpa (Kinnaur) by 5-6PM.

28th Jan - Kinnaur Sight seeing

29th Jan - Kinnaur Sight Seeing

30th Jan - Start at 7AM from Kalpa and reach Shimla by 3-4PM. Night Stay at Shimla.

31st Jan - Back to Delhi.

I have never been to Kinnaur (though I have traveled till Kufri with my Santro car several times). Need help on following -

1. Please let me know if the roads till Kalpa(Kinnaur) are okay to go by Santro Car?
2. Please let me know if above itinerary looks okay?
3. Are 2 full days sufficient for Kinnaur? I will also be looking to go for 1 day easy trek :-) as I have never trekking so far.
4. Please suggest if there is any 1 day good trek in Kinnaur and also let me know the best (must go!) trek if there is any in Kinnaur.. I can add more days in my itinerary in that case.

Till kinnaur its ok to go in any car. santro should not be a prblem.

2. Please let me know if above itinerary looks okay?

3. Are 2 full days sufficient for Kinnaur? I will also be looking to go for 1 day easy trek :-) as I have never trekking so far.
2 days should be ok for kinnaur(at a minimun). one day you can spend at kalpa and the other day you can spend at sangla and chitkul. I dont think you will get time to do any trek within 2 days (unless you count a walk up to chakha pastures as a trek - its about 2 hours uphill of kalpa)

4. Please suggest if there is any 1 day good trek in Kinnaur and also let me know the best (must go!) trek if there is any in Kinnaur.. I can add more days in my itinerary in that case.

Sangla kanda trek is supposed to be nice. sarch the site with "sangla kanda" and you will get information about it.

5. kaza should be possible unless malling nalah is temporarily closed down due to land slide. you will get that info once you reach kinnaur.

I hope you are aware that almost all hotels/guesthouses in kinnaur and spiti will be closed at that time. they are closed in the winter and open again around middle of april.

Hi! If you reach Kaza there is at least 1 guest house where you can stay,and some home staying possibilities are there too.

Thanks Guys.

After taking suggestions from many travelers I am dropping my idea to go to Spiti in Jan but I am planning to go till Kinnaur. Spiti I will go again in April.

I will be going to Kinnaur on 24th Jan with my Santro car.. please let me know if there are any roads which should I cross at some specific times to avoid traffic jams / heavy traffic?

if there is heavy snow the roads to Kalpa gets blocked for 2-3 days so keep a tab on the weather conditions before leaving.
