Delhi-Chail-Manali : suggestions please

Hi,

My wife and I are visiting Himachal in the last week of May. The itenary is given below.

24th night : Delhi to Kalka - by train
25th : Kalka to Simla by toy train and Simla to Chail
25th night : stay at Chail palace
26th : Chail to Manali
26,27,28,29 : Manali
30th night : Manali to Delhi.

Now, my questions:

1) Do I need to include Simla also as I have not planned for any sight seeing in Simla?
2) How will be accommodation in Log Huts in Chail palace? It is in the palace or outside the palace? I planned for this just for one day. Is this too hectic?
3) Is it better to do day journey from simla to manali or night? If the route is beautiful, I will plan for day journey.
4) 4 days in Manali is enough?
5) What are the good places to stay in Manali (around 1500 rs per day), the hotel/cottage should have restaurant.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Ravi

Hi Sidharth,

No, this is my first trip to Himachal. If I have to choose between simla and Chail, which one you recommend?

Thanks,
Ravi

Chail is more of a laid back place.....reading, walking etc etc whereas Shimla is a more 'happening' place...for example the mall... depends on what you want to do i guess..

You are spending one night only before setting out for Manali so better spend it in Shimla.
The log huts at Chail is in the palace area but not "inside" the palace.

Manali Info

Ques Do I need to include Simla also as I have not planned for any sight seeing in Simla?

Ans: Dear Ravi Shimla is just hours drive from Chail. also from Chail to Shimla there is kufri on way. Start early from Chail visit Kufri in the morning. & plan out your Evening in Shimla, it would be crowded but good

2) How will be accommodation in Log Huts in Chail palace? It is in the palace or outside the palace? I planned for this just for one day. Is this too hectic?

ans. One day is perfret for Chail. Also visit world Highest Cricket Ground its in Chail

3) Is it better to do day journey from simla to manali or night?
Ans Start your journey after having ur meal in Shimla as journey from Shimla upto Sundernagar Via Bilaspur is quite boring.
But From Pandoh onwards to Manali, the route is good

4) 4 days in Manali is enough?
ans:: If your not planning any hiking then 4 days in Manali god enough
Day 1::u can plan to go upto Rohtang Pass & then on the way back can go Solan Nullah. there is a temple in Solang Nullah Apprx 2 kms or Pony ride. try it out most tourist miss it.

Day 2:: Hadimba Temple (Bhim's Wife) Must visit. The Vasistnath (hot water Springs), Naggar Castle & Roerich Art Gallery, alos on the way to naggar from Manali there Atal behari Vajpyee's Summer House Prini. then a monastery is also there Near Bus Stand.
Day 3:: Manikaran Sahib Gurdawara or u can see on ur journey back from Manali. either on Day 3 or $ there is one more place known as Bijli Mahadev its a scared place for the locals & view is good as its at the top of the peak.

5) What are the good places to stay in Manali (around 1500 rs per day), the hotel/cottage should have restaurant.
ans. There are N numbers of Hotels in Manali. u can probaly Book them before hand & simply go & find one. that wont be a issue, also if ur hotel doesnt have a restaurant then also its not a issue
in case of any further query pla get back to me

Enjoy ur TRIP !!

Ravi,
Kufri is very beautiful. We had done e horse back ride in July 2005 to some temple there(usual tourist attraction). It took us about six hours for the round trip and the trek was one of the most beautiful I've experienced in my life. There is not much to see in Chail other than Chail Palace. You can stay there if you prefer. Toy train from Kalka to Simla was very beautiful. I would do following:

24th night : Delhi to Kalka - by train
25th : Kalka to Simla by toy train...Jakhoo Temple/Vice Regal Lodge and evening on Mall Road.Simla. Night in Simla

26th morning : Leave for Chail...Stop at Kufri on the way..then late afternoon to Chail
27th : Chail to Manali
28,29 : Manali
30th night : Manali to Delhi.

I've not been to Manali yet(planning in July this year). You can see my itinery plan for Manali in this Forum.

Rishab's right on this...even if there is the frequency will be low..and it will stop at Shimla irrespective...best is to go to shimla which is not far at all, and catch somethng from there...
