Dehra Dun to Shimla
Dehra Dun to Shimla
Hello,
I am looking for some advice on getting from Dehra Dun (Mussoorie) to Shimla. Is it worth getting on a train? where would I connect to Shimla? Should I hire a taxi? Bus? Thanks so much.

DEHRADUN to SHIMLA
BY BUS: You can get direct bus from DEHRADUN to CHANDIGARH and from here you can change BUSES. Chandigarh is main HUB for SHIMLA and above.
This is cheapest and easiest way.
TAXI: I do not reccomment hiring taxi-if you are alone.
BY TRAIN: Get a train from DEHRADUN to AMBALA-ask at railway station and get air conditioned apartment ticket.
From AMABALA you can travel by BUS -again to CHANDIGARH and then changing bus for SHIMLA but I still think that getting direct bus from DEHRADUN to CHANDIGARH is best way.
You gonna LOVE CHANDIGARH !!

if u want to take the adventurous route, from dehradoon, head to chakrata. then to tuini-hatkoti. take a left to kharapathar-theog and join nh-22 and down to shimla. app 160-170kms this way..
else u can go from dehradoon to paonta sahib -nahan-solan-shimla
these two routes can be done in a taxi/bus

Yes, that's the way to do it, and as suggested, spend a day in Chandigarh. I was there last summer, and stayed at Hotel Green View (clean, cheap and friendly), near the bus stand. You won't believe the bus stand, by the way - its got to be the best in India - very organised, with good food, too.Chandigarh is very spread out, so to see everything, I'd recommend taking the local tour - details at the tourist office at the bus stand. Don't miss Nek Chand's Rock Garden - that place is unbelievable !!! Good museums and galleries, too.
