Dali Lama's birthday in Dharamsala

The Dali Lama's birthday is coming up on July 6th has anyone been to Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj at that time. I was thinking of heading up there, are there special celebrations? Is it hard to find accomidation during that time?

(lived there for 20 years . . . still have my surfboards in Carp) I would imagine that unless HH is in residence at that time, you should have little problem finding accomodation.

I was there for Losar in '92 and the town was packed.

Yeah I've been on the road for a year and a half now miss those SB burritos.

I guess no one seems to know what goes on for the Dali Lama's birthday. I guess I find out and report back. I know the weather won't be good, but just pit stopping there on my way up to Ladakh and I figured it would be an interesting time to be there if there were celebrations going on.

Hey solo trekker,

just got to Mcleod Ganj, my plan is to hang out here until the sixth and see what goes on for the dali lama's birthday then head to Manali to catch a bus up to ladakh. Probably not interested in trekking here, since its constantly cloudy right now so probably won't see much, and just get wet. I figure I'll wait and do the hiking in ladakh. Happy to meet up if you'd like.

I took a night train (Jammu Mail left old Deli 9:30pm arrive 7:15am) from delhi to pathankot then bus from there to Mcleod Ganj (left at 8:30 am got in at 1:00 pm). Basically because I'd rather sleep on a train than a bus.

Staying at a place with a guy I met on the train, 250 rupees for a spacious clean double with hot shower and tv. Didn't look real hard so you might be able to do better.

let me know when you get into town and we can meet up.

Does the place have a name...?
The hotel - which road is it on...?
I've been thinking of a trek upto Indrahar Pass, but not too sure because of the weather...
Is it raining a lot...?
Cheers...!

The place I'm staying at is pink house (I think that is the name pink something) its a Kashmiri run place its fine, new and clean, but I don't particularly recommend it, there are probably places with more atmosphere but its good enough that I don't want to bother to move. Its down a stairway off to the east of the main road that runs parallel to temple road from the bus stand, sort of across from a school. There is a big Yoga sign in front of the stairway. Its at the point after the road curves down to the left coming from the bus stand heading south.

Its been raining at least once a day sometimes for hours sometimes just a few showers. An occasional bit of blue sky but more rain than sun.

If your in town today I'll be the guy walking around today with a green beer lao t-shirt, and navy blue marmot rain jacket.

cheers,
micah

Hiya...

Well Well Well...
I definitely am in town...!
Got here last afternoon...
Hung around for a while at various joints...

Am at a quaint lil' place on Bhagsu Road, just 100 metres off the main square... And between Nick's Italian itchen and the Green Hotel - It's called Dhen-sum House...! Infact, I just popped out for two seconds to check out the name...!

And well, I'm the guy who's walking around town wearing a tee with 'Shanti' 'Peace' written and it's symbol... And a Red Kingfisher Premium Lager Beer cap...! Guess atleast the 'Beer' is common...!

The sun just peeped out from behind the clouds and it's bright and sunny as I write this... All that after a wet and dreary day... I had gone to the Bhagsu Falls... And instead of the usual route, I climbed along the boulders right upto the point where the pathway reaches... And have just come back from the Main Temple, where preparations are on in full swing for function tomorrow... Was there last night too, but it was obviously closed...

Am kinda conused about the directions... As there are two roads - one heading to the main temple and one parallel to it... Which one u on...? Anyways, I'll find the place... I'll also pm you my mobile number, just in case... And hopefully, we can atleast share a drink together...!

Cheers to that...!
