| Crossing from Baspa Valley into Uttarkhand Our original plan was to trek from Chitkul either to Harsil via Lamkhaga or to Har ki Dun via Borasu. Starting from Shimla we have got a lot and mostly contradictory information from "no permit is neccessary at all" or "Inner Line Permit enough" to "not possible at all" In Chitkul I have checked it out with the army. They have told me that to cross the bridge (where there is a check point) on the way to Borasu or Lamkhaga is possible only for the residents of Chitkul. The tourists (and their guides) must have a special authorization from the ministery of Home Affairs. I have heared from the locals that earlier some trekkers managed to go this route but it was a while ago. Later in Recong Peo I have seen on TV that just around the time when we were in Chitkul there were some border issues with China in Ladakh. This was of course not helpful for our plans. So, we had no other option as to go for reverse parikarma over Charang La. Honestly, I cannot see the rationale behind this restriction. If it is the proximity of the border, according to the map from the most close point of the route there are still ca. 25 km over 5000 m high mountain range (going to Lamkhaga) and ca. 50 km if going to Borasu. When we have crossed Charang La, I have seen on the map that short before Tangi we were nearly 30 km close to the border and there were no check points at all. Did anybody tried these routs before and what was your experience? |
