i was there for twice. 1st time it was a lovely trek from surajtal to chandratal via batal. trek rout is very good. 2nd time (2008) i was there by car(scorpio). we were there from kunjum pass. there are two routes(motorable). we take the 2nd route (left turn before batal). the road is horrible for driving but beauty is like heaven.![]() |

As mentioned by one of our friend earlier, the drive is just too good from Gramphoo. Batal is abt 52 kms from there. No need to book anything. From Delhi reach Manali.
Stayput for a night. Next day go to Keylong (to get acclamatised to high altitude) apart from that it is beautyful. At Batal the owner of the dhaba is Budha Dorjee, a great guy. from there Chandratal abt 15 kms. Have a great trip. |

yahh! he is a great guy. and rajma-chowl at his dhaba is greaaat. i was there from simla. our rout was simla-sarahan-sangla-chhitkul-rekongpio-kalpa-nako-tabo-kaza-kunjumpass-chandratal-bataal- khokasar( a heavenly place)-keylong-manali(via rotang pass)-chandigarh. i was there in 1st week of september- off season for tourists and full bloom season of apples. no need to book anything. just book a vehicle from simla and enjoy the beautiful journey.

i did the chandratal baralachala trek this year before the road opened . . . first at the lake, it was surreal. so peaceful and the reflections in the pristine semi frozen lake were unreal.
had to walk from kunzum, up to the top to the most awesome campsite with views of the chandratal nestled in the peaks and glaciers. one of the most beautiful campsites i have seen. the walk to baralachala is easy, with a couple of fordings required again the views of the mulkila range are spectacular. ![]()
