Hello
Can you all please update me re Chadratal. Am planning to visit this Sunday. 1. Ok to visit at this time? Not planning to trek but rather drive. 2. How far is it from Manali and time required to drive. I do not plan to stay overnight. Plan to drive early in the morning, spend a couple of hours taking some shots and return to Manali by evening. 3. Weather? Roads? Please let know. |

Bad news for you chandartaal is not accesible now, due to heavy rock fall on road.
However , it is 135 kms from manali. It will take around 5 hrs from manali, if road is cleared. If you have any more queries just ask me. For more help visit my web: http://him.gypsy.googlepages.com/home |

Dear Hemant,
I doubt if Practically Possible to go Start from Manali for Chander Tal & return back the same day. The Disacne may be 135 Kms , but it certainly takes u more than that. keepin in mimnd the recent choas enroute to Rohtang at Gulaba, Also the road from Gramphoo upto to Kunzam La is quite rough, ur Avg speed on this strech would be 20-25 Kms/hr at max.Do keep this things in mind before leaving from Manali |

Re
Thanks Balvar
That was useful information. I would re-assess and figure out my options. |

Since you seem to be a pro at this [ ], Can you tell me what are my options other than ChandraTal. I already have Naggar and Vashishth on my list and am not too keen on Malana because of the Israeli scene there. What options do I have if I was to go somewhere like chandratal (green and pristine you know so i can satisfy the shutterbug) and return back the same day to manali assuming I start early and roads are clear. |

Hi! The problem on the road near Chatru was solved the same day, blasting one big rock. So Chandratal is reachable by car,but one day from and to Manali is too much also in my view although spending some 12-14 hours on the road it could be done, but I personally would not.Pristine it was some year back, now it's quite busy, tents and people are there.

Can you suggest an alternative? My plan is to leave by 7-am-ish and be back by evening. |
