Chandigarh-shimla-manalli or chandigarh-manali-shimla???

First of all....its very exciting to see such nice suggestions on these forums..
Now..please help us arrange our trip..

We are 5 and would prefer public transport (please tell,if private will be economical for 5)
With 6 days..should we start from chandigarh to shimla..and then to manalli or the other way..
No state bus is available on site for chandigarh to manalli...
Please help...

I'm sure Himachal Road Transport run a bus from Chandigarh to Manali. Yup - you can check the times and fares here: http://himachal.gov.in/hrtc/route.asp

There are good buses from Shimla to Manali they leave at 8:00am from each end at a cost of about 350/- and you have to book locally and best the day before the travel.

He seems a good chap as we have talked about the problems of touts in Shimla and HP tourism problems occasionally. By the way, watch the touts at the bus stands or anywhere as the cheap hotels are a real long walk form town, that's why they are cheap.
