Hello All

I am planning to travel to Manali during the first week of October, are there any chances of seeing snow atleast at Rohtang pass during this time of the year?

It can happen if the weather is favorable at that time, but I wouldn't take that for granted.

If you are lucky, you might just get fresh snowfall. It snowed 3-4 days back in the higher areas of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur. I saw it happening for (24th ,25th Sept. this time) two days incessantly in Kinnaur. It seems unususal timing of snow is no longer that unusual!!!!

At present there is snow at Rohtang and around the hills close to it at present so one would presume that this would have increased by the first week of October and possibly the pass will be closed.

Hi! I don't know abpout Rothang but this morning here in Kaza snow was falling for a shortwhile, and the mountains on the southern side of town were almost fully white. People say winter is coming early this year,so you have good chances of seeing the whithe mantle.

Got back last week from Manali and Lahaul. It snowed on the peaks around on the night of 6th Oct, but not thereafter as far as I know. At Rohtang, all around the snow is on the slopes and the peaks around look so close u can almost touch them!
Altho the snow is streaky in places due to run-off, the main snow-field at the pass was still full and the skis are out.
Absolutely amazing to be the only one on the pass at 8.15 am Wed 10th Oct, total silence all around, except for 4-5 birds circling close by and making a noise, the sun shining out of a clear blue sky with the occasional tuft of white cloud.
It was 3.5 C at Koksar at 6.45 am, and windy! 1.9 C during the night!!

So all those people writing in different threads "I'm going to Manali, I've never seen snow, will I be able to roll in it or do head-stands, etc." - yes, u will!! But do it quick before the pass closes!

Hi Guys,
I plan to make a trip to Spiti next week and wanted help on the possible accomodation options in Tabo & Kaza (budget upto 2000 per night) and wanted to know if it is possible to make a single day trip from Sangla to Kaza.

Could some one help out on this!

Have u browsed the sub-forums? There's a lot of good info there. The very first 'sticky' deals with stay in Spiti in fact. Click the link 'Himachal Pradesh' in the 2nd line at the top.

U can do Sangla to Kaza in one day, but it will be tough and tiring.
