Arrow Chamba Valley

I am visiting Chamba Valley in the Nov end

Plans: Chamba -- Bharmour -- Dalhousie

I wanted to know what to expect there:

1. what quality of hotels to expect at Bharmour. Is it safe to stay there with my Wife?

2. any ATM's available in any of these areas?

3. Beer??

Any more info on the area would be helpfull.

I have visited Mc Leod Ganj (Dharamsala) -- how does the chamba valley fetch compared to Dharamsala

manavs,

I saw your PM before I saw this post, hence I've already replied on Chamba and Bharmour.

In general, H.P. is a very safe place to travel and stay.

Dalhousie is also a delightful hamlet, as is Khajjiar, the saucer shaped meadow between Dalhousie and Chamba. Hotels recommended are "Manimahesh" in Dalhousie and "Devdar" in Khajjiar, both run by HPTDC. Dalhousie also has a cheaper option in Hotel Gitanjali.

The Chamba valley cannot really be compared to D'sala, either is beautiful in its own way, as you'll discover this December !!

There are no hotels at Bharmour. One or two guest houses only. My sister's family had been there in May 2004 on my recommedation....... and they really liked the place. It is totally SAFE. Its a bit "lacking" in facilities, though. If you are a typical city slicker not wanting to put up with minor inconveniences, I'd say don't go to Bharmour. The six to eight hour bus ride (Chamba to Bharmour) is the first bone shaking experience in the series. No ATMs at Bharmour for sure.... Chamba may have got one by now... but I don't know. By the way... these are pretty safe areas for carrying cash around.

The comparison between Mcleod & Chamba is like chalk and cheese. In Chamba you may not find even ONE foreigner in November. Good Tibetan food like Mcleod is hard to come by anywhere in India, let alone Chamba. Chamba is beautiful. But not actively buzzing like Mcleod..... quite laid back.
