I am trying to find out the current situation with the roads.
The times on the forum seen to differ from a few hours to 6 hours.
I would also like to find any reccomendations for accom in chamba and Bharmour.
My girlfriend and i are going there at the end of the month, and are looking foward to it. The website has been fantastic for gaining info thanks all.

By the Public transport bus, it'll take btwn 5 & 6 hours.

Your own car will take you there in around 4.

The roads are mountain roads so you travel at an approx speed of 20 to 25 km per hour

I'm not sure of the scene exactly... but I'd be willing to bet Bharmour is pretty shut down... I went there in October and it was pretty quiet--I was the only tourist I saw and restaurants were more or less non-existent... pleasant town, though... around now, I'd expect plenty of snow, which should be nice.

Thanks for your replies,
It seems we might be hiring a jeep if they are available.
The place sounds like it will be empty of tourists it sounds good but it would be nice if someone was around.
As long as there is something open it should be great.
There is always some place to stay.

I was in bharmour last mid april and it was pretty closed. You could get a hotel and food easy enough but the government trekking advice centre was closed. We were chatting to a couple of tibetan guys in acafe and they said they weren't expecting people for a few weeks - bt they cooked us a chow mein. Great food in the dabhas where the bus stops.

You can get a guide from chamunda guest house but don't be surprised if he persuades you to buy him lunch then gets completely wasted and attempts to adopt you (yeah it was a bit mad)

We were there for 2 nights. That was about the right amount of time to see the temples and have a bit of a wander about and get in a day's trekking (if you need anything special take it with you). It is very small and expect to have to try quite hard to be understood, even if you attempt to use your phrase book. Great views tho and certainly an adventure!

Bus took three hours each way and it is not for the faint hearted. Wouldn't recommend own transport or taxi due to the ammount we saw in the bottom of the ravine.

Bhamour is tiny but there are still people willing to try and tout you - don't lower your guard just coz it's small.

Recommend Dalhousie - Hotel craggs was a good budget place to stay.

Feel free to PM me if there's any further questions I can answer.

I second that about the language. I speak Hindi fairly fluently, so there was no problem, but it's definately more a trucker outpost/kasba type place than a tourist area, so I don't you'll hear too much English... for instance, you have to dig even for something like a bottle of water.

Traveling to Bharmour

Can someone answer the following with up-to-date info? Thanks!

1. Present cost (equivalent in US dollars would be great ) of a bus trip from Delhi to Chamba. Same thing Chamba to Bharmour...

2. I am reading that this isn't your "typical" tourist town. Good, I'm not a tourist. But how do people respond/react to outsiders? Are they receptive to us (in this case, Americans?).

Any/all advice appreciated.

Ans Bus fare From Delhi - Chamba in US Dollars max would be 25 Dollars. It can be less also. & Further to Bharmour, u can say 1 Dollar would do. But Mind it You would only be able in Indian Rupees Only

People are Relatively Friendly. Also there behaviour is same towards all the Foreginers (i.e Irrespective of their Country)

Apart From this Bharmour is on the Banks of Ravi. Main Attarctions are Bharmani Mata Mandir (Holy Temple of Local goddess). Other main attarctions of Bharmour is the Cluster of 84 temples the Chaursia temples. Apart of this Bharmour serves a Ideal base camp for sevral Treks into Pangi Valley

Bharmour

Thanks a lot. One last thing. Travel time Delhi to Chamba, then Chamba to Bharmour? Will I have to stay overnight in Chamba? How often do the buses travel to Bharmour? How are the connections? And lastly (ok, I think this is last) this will be my first though hopefully not last visit. I would like to go when there are as few tourists as possible, but it will have to be in the summer. OPtions are late May-June-July-early August. Thoughts?

Apprcx time in a Bus would be some a where around 20 Hours. (Delhi - Chamba). Then From Chamba to Bharmour approz 4 Hours. Preferably u can stay Overnight in Chamba. Connections in Terms of Cell Network ?? Otherwise u have locals Pay Phones around. There would be regular Buses for Bharmour say at least 3 Times a day ( not very Sure on this one). Well very Few oursits Visit Bharmour. but any time before Aug Would be Ideal. As in Aug there is a local fair in Bharmour & also there is Annual Pilgrimage for Manimahesh Lake.
