Bus service Delhi-Dharamsala

Hello,

I wanted to ask a few questions regarding bus connectivity from Delhi.
  • Are volvo buses running on Delhi-Dharamsala or Delhi-Pathankot route? (Preferably Himachal Pradesh state run buses or similar.)
  • How does one book the tickets beforehand? Is booking over the internet or phone possible?
  • How likely am I to get tickets for 22nd June 2008? Are they usually overbooked?
  • What are the timings of Volvo buses?
  • I want to get to McLeodganj. Are there any alternate routes?

Incase the volvo service is not available, what is the state of ordinary HP state buses? Would it be advisable to travel by them?

thanks,
Nishita

i dont think there are volvo buses on the delhi-mcleod route. not by the hrtc anyway. they have ordinary buses which leave from behind Chandralok Building in CP. for volvo, try private operators.

Hello

The volvo buses are available from ISBT. They leave at 8 pm everyday.

They go upto Dharamshala. You'll have to a take a cab from D'sala to Mcleod. Generally Rs. 200 for an Alto, Its about 10 kms+.

I just logged into my account at HRTC and checked availability for 22nd june. 8 tickets are still available. Please note that HRTC keeps only 10 seats for online reservation and only 2 are booked as of now for 22nd June. I would advise you to book now.

http://www.hp.gov.in/hrtctickets/

You will need to create an account.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
H

Thanks hemant_b. I am already on it. But it looks like there is some (hopefully temporary) problem with credit card acceptance.

Does anyone know what my chances are if I want to book the ticket on the same day at ISBT?

Nishita.

good to hear that volvo services are indeed there. but no need to spend about 200 for dharmahala to mcleod - you can do the same journey by another bus for about 20 bucks.

Re

Nishita

Am 100% certain you wont be able to get the tickets on 22nd june at ISBT.

Seats are usually pre-booked. Your best bet is to try online. I have used my credit card all 4-5 times when I have booked tickets on HRTC site and it worked fine. May be its just a technical issue and will get sorted.Keep trying.

Alternatively, You can get in touch with friends/relatives in delhi and get them to book tickets for you from the ISBT counter within this week.

@Singsub

I couldn't have agreed more with you mate, but I dont know if someone would want to use Roadways bus after travelling for 12 hrs in a Volvo.
