Chamba

Hi Mridula,
This place is located 65Kms from Chamba. Apart from the scenery this place is famous for the wooden temples. These wooden temples are located in the heart of the village compound known as Chaurasi.
Right at the centre Chaurasi like a jewel in the crown stands the monumental temple of `Mani Mahesh' in whose sanctum `garbha grihya' a huge monolithic 'Shiva Linga' is enshrined.
In Chamba do visit the gallery & see the beautiful minature paintings for which Chamba is famous for.
You can also visit Jwalamukhi. There are beautiful tea gardens in near by Palampur & some nice places to stay.
December will naturally be cold but still visit-able.
Regards.

Not sure

I am not sure of December, but it doesn't snow inside the Ravi valley this soon. Bus from Chamba is available. Bharmour is a beautiful place, with some genuine antique temples and exquisitely carved statues more than 1200 yrs old.

Please post a report after you do the trip.

Yeah u can get from chamba to bharmour but the last bus leaves at 16:30 hrs as far as my memory stands. The road is cut alongside a water project and the man made lake is a sight to behold, esp with no barriers on the road side, the bus will stop at a place called "raakh" for eatables, make sure to get urself some "pakoras". The road to bharmour meanders from hard rock cut mountains to apple orchards. A bifurcation from "kahadapatthar", left to "bharmour" and right to "holi". The road to bharmour is one long climb from there.
The road to Mani Mahesh will be closed at this time of the year but the nearest jeepable point is 8k's / rs 20 /passenger, served by local jeeps. Cheap place to stay would be a dorm in the "Chaurasi Mandir" complex, whick rents out beds @rs30 and yeah the choukidar will supply warm water if asked nicely . Enjoy ur spiritual intrulude
P.S. in a hurry excuse the atrocious spellings.
Lemme know if u need more info
