Best way to get from Rishikesh to Dharamsala? ..

Kia Ora Everyone,

I apologise if the answer to this question is already present on the forum ... It is my first trip to India and so hot here it is hard to think straight! .. I have been asking around here in Rishikesh but have got many different answers ... Can anyone advise me what is the easiest/ best way to get from here to Dharamsala and is the road open at the moment?? ... Thank you!

road
railways
air

by road, you can go to delhi and get both luxury and usual buses straight to d'shala, or go to Shimla-Bilaspur-Hamirpur-Kangra- Dharamshala, that can be a sort of sight seeing trip with small breaks!

by rails, you can go from delhi-amritsar/pathankot then dharamshala, by further rail or road, whatever you like, its not very far from pathankot!!

by air, you can book a flight from delhi to gaggal (near bilaspur), take a bus or taxi from bilaspur to dharamshala!

No need to go to Delhi.

You can:

1. Take the Hemkunt express from Rishikesh till Chakki Bank. From Chakki Bank take a bus/shared taxi/independent taxi.

2. Come to Haridwar and take a direct bus to Dharamshala. It's an ordinary bus.

3. Come to Dehradun and take the Air Conditioned night bus to Dharamshala.

Thanks so much for your help ! .. I ended up getting a train from Rishikesh to Chakkibank ... I then got a rickshaw to Pattankot where I was going to catch the local bus but was then offered a ride in a taxi by two nice ladies and I only had to ay the fee I was going to pay for the bus ! .. SO thanks again, the advice helped a lot.
