Honeymoon
Hi All,
I have got most of the information from the forum and they are really helpful. I am planning my honeymoon in end of April and have queries and need your help. I will be leaving from Ahmadabad and my first destination will be manali as its one of the best, My wife has travel sickness and would like to avoid long distance travelling by road as much as possible. So below are my questions 1. What is the best train route from Delhi to manali? It will be helpful if you provide train details too. 2. Which is the best hotel for honeymoon in manali? Off course as everyone I want this to be one of the memorable times of our life so please suggest the best one. 3. Which are the places I must visit? And what is the best approach for visiting those places? Car, bus, cost etc. 4. I am planning to stay I manali for three days, all places in manali will be covered in three days? 5. Which place do you suggest after manali as happy to spend more 6 days at some good places? I.e. Shimla, Dalhousie, dharamshala etc…. also how to reach there from manali. Thanks in advanced. Vipul - can't help you re train to Manali(no rail line there) but Mr K and I caught an overnight bus. In hindsight, another way of going would have been far more comfortable. I wonder whether train to Chandigarh then bus would be the way? Someone else might help. It was 8 years ago, so hotels may have changed since then, new ones built etc.
After Manali - I loved Dalhousie as a quieter option to Manali for a 2nd place to go to. Both Simla and Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj are very busy - interesting though.

There are very nice walks in Dalhousie, a Mall which is flat and scenic plus the backside road also the same. Lots of trees, really fresh, leafy smell in the air. That's what I enjoyed - there may be temples but I didn't find out - there was a Gurudwara I think at the end of the Mall. From Manali to there, a long way. Doable by buses I think, but there is a train station at Pathankot, so maybe bus to Kalka/Chandigarh and pick up a train? I'm hoping someone who knows will help you further.

hi
Getting from Delhi to Manali - best and cheapest option is semi-sleeper bus of Himachal tourism - costs approx Rs. 800 per seat.. leaves Delhi around 5:30 pm reaches next day morning around 8am or 9am, sometimes earlier too. There are sleeper coaches also but in the hills that dicey sometimes. I tried semisleeper and it was good. I prefer himachal tourism buses because they have two drivers, for the night journey, each of them drives half the time, so it is safer Re: Manali hotels, sorry to be a wet blanket but I dont prefer to stay in Manali at all. In my opinion it is too touristy. Recently two of my friends went to Manali for the Honeymoon and were not too happy with the crowded hotels in the main area. Try Hotel Kalpana, it is a bit secluded, in the middle of an apple orchard, and they have a nice deluxe suite (after all its your honeymoon). It may be worth your while to spend a couple of days at Solang.. It is 13 km away (one hour journey), much much quieter and more beautiful. Check out www.icelandsolang.com -- its a nice guesthouse, owned by my friend Khem, its not five star or anything, the rooms are pretty basic but not too expensive and the people are very friendly and the natural beauty is amazing. You can go to Dhundy from there, for a half day trip. There is a beautiful waterfall also if you are up to doing a couple of hours trek.. Other interesting location in Himachal are Shoja (beautiful but nothing much to do) and Naggar (beautiful castle with beautiful views) and the Roerich gallery next door, but not much else to do. Avoid Kullu. Shimla too is over-rated and overcrowded in my opinion, especially in the main market. |

Hi Vipul,
There is a direct train from Ahmdebad to Chakki Bank if you prefer the train journey. From Chakki you can stop by Dharamshala for a day or two and remaining time in Manali. Chakki to Dahramshala may be four hours drive and Dharamshala to Manali would be around eight. We're planning a family trip in July to Manali and surrounding area. No....not our honeymoon..it was 12 yrs ago. It'll be with wife and three kids. All the best! |

I guess, you had your honeymoon long back.
For a second honeymoon and if you are a bit adventurous and nature loving, consider the option of Chandrataal. Camp by the side of the lake on a full moon night! Last edited by hiranmay : Mar 31st, 2008 at 16:52. Reason: Adding image |

Heh :P Better to gaze at the puffy cumulus clouds and daydream... lying in the open somewhere high in Himachal. Gives more than just that ...
Cheers |

Your honey moon question is too open ended... what kind of places you like, beaches vs mountains. What is your budget? Overseas vs domestic etc are some considerations which can help you narrow down the options.
