Best place to organize a fishing/camping trip in Parvati/Kullu

Hi Gang,

I heard the fishing is great in the Parvati area and also along the Bea river. I want to know where the best place would be to organize a 2-3 day fishing/camp trip? Should it be organzied in Kullu city? Manali?

Will be going in early October.

Hi ebrenchley. I've spent a few months in the area you're interested in and I'd recommend the slower flowing and shallower section of the Parvati River in and around Kasol and Chalal village. To get there make your way to Bhuntar, the local airport is actually based there if you don't fancy the 14 hour road trip from Delhi. Once you reach Bhuntar catch the bus or take a taxi up the Parvati Valley towards Manikaran. Kasol is on this road and is a few miles before Manikaran. Once in Kasol make your way to the wooden footbridge over the Parvati River and you'll see what I mean. A ten minute walk from Kasol, over the footbridge, is Chalal village and I'd definitely recommend it for pitching your tent. BUT ASK PERMISSION FROM WHOEVER'S LAND YOU WISH TO CAMP ON. As you'll see when you first enter the mouth of the valley from Bhuntar, this section of the river is too fast flowing and the gorge is incredibly deep- thats why i'd advice the Kasol area. Its where the valley flattens out for a mile or so, enough to curb the whitewater that makes up most sections of the river. Its also where the land is flat enough to make it suitable for camping. The scenary is reminiscant of British Columbia believe it or not- high glacier streaked mountains sweeping down to pine forested slopes.
The time of year that you're going coincides with the harvest of the local cash crop which is green, bushy and pungent and I'll leave it up to your imagination rather than elaborating!! The Parvati is teeming with trout and you can use fly or worms. (I found worms in the calm pools to be most effective).Enjoy yourself and have a great time.

Tirthan river is very famous for its trouts so you can also try there.

For what it's worth -
Himachal Tourism organises fishing at it's 'Adventure Resort' at Raisan. It's about halfway between Kullu and Manali.
