Batal Chandratal Trek

Hi All,

Planning a Batal Chandratal trek second week of June. There will be some kids and elderly folk and many not-so-fit adults!

1. Is the trek do-able for such a group?
2. Will the road be open as an alternative?

Question Road open

The road is open during season, but second week of June is cutting it a bit fine. Road opens by 15th June generally.... so you should not have any problem with the not so fit adults.

hi..

Hello all..

From coming monday, I have a trip plan as follows..

Day1--reach manali, by evening in the camps of gulaba..rather roadikhodi...
Day2--Trek to Bhrigu lake..want to camp there..if not, then at Pandu Ropa
Day3--Come back via Vashishth.rest somewhere..(hotel preferably..)
Day4--Take a bike on rent and drive upto Chandrataal.., or stop somewhere in between.
Day5--Look around the place..
Day6--Come back to manali..catch evening bus
day7--Back in delhi..

I need a review from experts how good is this plan..??
Some FAQ..
1. Can we take Bike upto chandrataal..a bullet preferably..
Desperately looking for agents who can arrange the trek to Bhrigu lake..I have contacted few but they are insanely expensive for students like us..I have a budget of 4K for 2 people.. Any help will be highly appreciated..also, bike rental agencies..??..any info..i will search the site though but if u can just put it down here, it will be great..!!

this is also my plan. Would be visitng around last week of june. Would love to take the rented bikes to Batal. But i have read in blogs that this route i.e from gramphoo to kaza is even more difficult than the manali leh route as the condition of roads in this route is pretty bad. What r ur opinion on this?
Is there any possibility of getting decent bikes in manali(the posts on the site say otherwise ( ?

Last two years the Army kept Baralacha La open upto 30th Oct. Then they remove the temporary bridges.

This year too the pattern should repeat itself, I assume.

have checked the previous posts in the forum.. looks like rented bikes from manali cant be trusted.
Then, can u guys give some idea about going upto chadratal? Will buses be available, i have read somehwere that manali-kaza buses are available. How about the accomodation then in batal? Or do we have to take our own tents nd sleeping bags? And also kindly throw some more light on the 14km trek from batal to the lake? What all precautions should we take?

Do we have to camp at the lake or is it possible to return back to any surrounding village for lodging? one more question,If we do get bikes, can we go all the way to the lake. Or do we have to bike upto a particular location and then trek?

I and my friend are the two people who would be doing the trip. i Hope u guys help me out! thanx.

Got a ride with a new truck , good driver out of Batal last year. With a light pack and lower altitude I think could have made the first part almost in the same time frame..

Hi! Buses should be running or just about to start sevice.Few days back the road to Chandratal was still closed to all traffic because of some avalanches not yet removed. As of now there is probably nobody at the lake so no tents to stay so not a good idea to walk perhaps,it is difficult to do the trek in both directions in one day, although possible. Batal is not a nice place to stay but you can,if the family running the dhaba is already there. The closest village is Losar which is over 30 kms from the lake.If you walk, especially going is better to start from the Kunzum La,it's all the way down,11 kms. To find a lift to the pass you can try to catch a returning spitian jeep, you will find them and their drivers at the Kiran guest house in Manali, near the SBI. Tomorrow or day after I will be able to update all the informations given above.

what will be the charge if we hire a jeep from manali to batal???
Just asking, coz i want to remove this option from my list if the jeep safari fares are too expensive.
