As you know word Kalpa and chini are used interchangeably now, however, to be specific the small monastery, Police station of Kalpa and other temples etc are at Chini village while other government buildings are at Kalpa. There is about 800 meters distance between these two places. Reckongpeo-Kalpa bus last Halt is at Chini .

800 m vertical or lateral?
EDIT: Can't be vertical - 800 sounds about right for the distance to 'Upper' Kalpa, so I guess you mean Chini is 'Lower' Kalpa.
I saw the main bus stand, it's just before the bazar, after the last bend. Straight ahead from the bend is the KV, and some govt buildings like PWD GH and Circuit House were on the upper road where HPTDC hotel is.

Basically one route- Shimla-Narkanda-Rampur-Karchham-R/Pio-Kalpa.

To go to Chhitkul, you have to back-track to Karchham.

Rakchham and Sangla are on the main road. I guess folks mean along the river if walking.
