Anyone been to Kalpa?

howdo, this is my first post!

Am currently staying in Mcleod Ganj and was planning on heading to Dalhousie and Chamba next but have had my mid changed and instead am going to Kalpa. Has anyone else been there? Any tips or things of note that might be worth knowing?
Mcleod Ganj has been great so far, bt the views in Kalpa are meant to be even better so tis there that we go!

try chitkul instead, if you are not going to chitkul. nature is much more closer to you at Chitkul than Kalpa ... now you decide but both places gives great views. Kalpa will give you more views of mountain ranges .. chitkul will give a rives and small village surrounded with mountains.

Hi Dhari. I've posted a thread "Sangla Valley advice" and noticed you have knowledge of the area I'm interested in. Are you aware of the possibility of renting accomodation locally in Chitkul or Kalpa? I'd appreciate any advice for an Irishman in India!!

Sfa, if you are going to Kalpa, don't miss the hike to Chakha/Chakha Pasture. It's supremely beautiful and the view from up there is awesome. However, not many visitors venture out to Chaka because of lack of info. To me, a visit to Kalpa/Chini is incomplete without visiting chaka pasture.

Check this link for few photographs from my chaka visit:- http://uuttam.multiply.com/photos/al...hakhaa_Kinnaur

If you want grand mountain Vista's Kalpa is farbetter than Chitkul with the Kinner Kailash range just 10 km. as the crow flies, Chitkul has a different beauty with lush greenvalleys, meadows and mountain Vinsta's.

Could you give directions to go to Chakha Pasture ?? Is it the top of the ridge as you climb up from Peo to Kalpa and upwards?

Chakha Pasture

Avid, you are right. Easiest approach to Chakha is from Chini village. Follow the Kuhl (irrigation channel) of the village, it leads to Chakha pasture. It is easy to moderate climb of about an hour. I was told even school kids from Peo, Kalpa and nearby villages go there occasionally for picnicking.

Right, I have been there...

My concentration was on Kinnaur Kailash / Jorkanden views all the time... so I missed out the divine scenery beneath my feet !

Thanks for the pics, uttam !

Me too...

Uttam, do you know The Five Lessons of Life? The story's about an Amchi from Kalpa and his prophecies... It's worth reading.

He is an honorary citizen of Kinnaur. Our Govt bothers him for ILP just coz he's from Germany.

I think he was a Kinnauraa in some previous incarnation...

Where IS Chini village exactly? One keeps hearing of Chini, Chini Bangla, I know Kalpa used to be called Chini - apparently renamed after '62 war, but now I'm not so sure there aren't 2 different places.
So I'm standing in the main bazar 'chauk' of Kalpa, close to the P.O. and the little monastery. One can keep driving upwards, till the road meets the wider road coming from the HPTDC hotel; continue left and the road leads to Roghi. So where is Chini village and Chakha?

Aah, so that's what the word means. So Patli kuhal = narrow channel.
