Yeah, I've been to Shoja... went last autumn and obviously it is splendid..beautiful and peaceful place..we too stayed at the Banjara resort..just fantastic...if you do decide to stay at Banjaracamps, see that u get the corner rooms and not the ones in the middle as they don't have any windows ![]() |

Iris
Hi,
Shoja is just great .... dotted with iris all over the slopes and meadows from May to June, Cedar, Horse Chestnut, Oaks ... its refreshing .... A must see place ... Banjara is a good option only if you dont want to explore the other better options of just bed and breakfast ... why get in to tghe humdrum of booking places when all we look forward to is good independent travel ... Down the valley at Ghyagi are a couple of guest houses (basic but good food) insist on freshly cooked dal and Sabji(Veg), or to the more commercial Banjar for a range of guesthouses ... probably what sums up the essence of the vallety is At Gushaini in the tirthan valley ... Raju's guest house is the best bet .. getting there is romantic imagine crossing a river on hand pulled pulley cart .... Great food and Acco by the river side at the base of the Great Himalayan National park ,, the second best option is the Himalayan Trout House owned bY christopher .... Tents and rooms ... good alpine tents go for around 400/- a night ... the food is good but expensive ... I would reccomend the roast trout (Tirthan is an Anglers paradise for trout) .... For moving around Get to meet with Bikku(ashok) from Horn Gad village in the valley ... A great angler he knows the place like the back of his hand ... Recommended walks to Sereolsar Lake (4 hours from jalori pass and Back), Raghupurnath Fort, and DEv kanda in the National Park ... one can obtain a permit and do a short hike in the park ..... or Hike over the Bashleo pass to get into Rampur in the Sutlej valley .... Sure this is one of the best places in Himachal and bless it ... The hordes yet dont drive into here .... Cheers, Dhananjay |
