The Kullu - Ani bus via Tattapani has been discontinued now. You will have to travel to Shimla if it snows around mid-Feb.

And yeah .. all you have to hope for is that it doesnt snow and getting to Thanedar shudn't be a problem but if it does then it could throw all your plans out of gear .

Also arriving at 6 am at Bithal will be of no use as you will find noone or nothing to take u onwards from there ( its just a shack there ) .. wud be better if you follow his other advise about heading to rampur and then taking the morning bus to Thanedar and again making sure its via Bhutti and not Nankhari ( this route will take ages ) .

Are you planning on staying at banjara camps ?
Hey khaadu,

As for this trip, banjara is out: steep for my present budget.
Was thinking of the PWD place or a guest house. ( still trying to contact them, though )
also, I was more worried about the journey out: since i need to be in delhi at most by 8pm on 17th feb. If the roads out get snowed out, then i'm in soup!

hi vasuki,

I was more worried about getting out rather than in: since i need to be in delhi latest by 8pm on 17th feb.
also, i may have to cut down on my little trips in kangra valley, on my way in,( like masrur, kangra fort, mc.leod,et al and i dont wanna miss prashar lake!.... ), so that i don't end up saying goodbye in the first few hours at thanedar.
i will post my entire itinerary asap, so that you can suggest if its reasonable.
Also, I am with my fiance, so was a bit worried about being stuck in some odd place at an odd hour waiting for a bus/taxi
( i know they say himaachal is safe and all, but one needs to plan safe when travelling with company).
do you think it'll be a better bet if i turned north towards manali which is nearer, and plan a visit to thanedar later sometime? Will manali be teeming with tourists in midfeb?

Regards,

Sthitapragnya

I think we have discussed worst case scenario above! In case it snows then you can always head for Manali and later move to Delhi. Manali is all full of solitude these days.

Snow possibility looks bleak now in Feb, but anything can happen in the hills. If the road is clear, you can take the Dharmshala - Peo bus till Bitthal. This bus does not come to Kangra but takes the Palampur route. From Thanedhar there is a direct bus to Delhi which leaves Thanedhar at 1 pm in the afternoon. Keep your options open for Thanedhar!

Check your messages!

(A little off topic, but this area is well served by Airtel and BSNL mobile service. If possible, try to be on either of the two.)

Shimla the snow was just 2 cm and it had cleared by 11 am. Narkanda the snow was around 1 ft and the road had opened by afternoon. No major traffic problems as of now

HI,

i plan to go to himachal in 2nd week of march ... intend to go for at a relaxed pace but include some bit of adventure sports. starting with dharamsala - manali- shoja- thanedar- shimla (mashobra). anyone has suggestions if thanedar and sojha are repetitve. and if i should skip one of them? sojha was suggested since i wanted to do cisit some wildflife sanctuary.... is it good enough or are there any other better options for wildlife sanctuaries on this cirucit? any other suggestions are welcome. thanks!
