You could but it all again depends on the amount of snowfall that region experiences ... as from Mandi one of the routes wud be via Jalori Pass and that may get blocked due to snow . Also there is another route via karsog but I havnt been on that stretch so cant say much but Im sure u can miss Simla .. Cheers |

Cheers[/quote] hi, So, i guess i'll go ahead with the journey till mandi. Depending on latest snowfall status i'll decide. I guess buses should'nt be much of a problem, since it's so-called-low season anyway, in case i need to ask anything specific, it'll be nice to have your contact num. or something. Thanks aggain Sthitapragnya |

There is an overnight bus from Dharamshala to Recongpeo which departs Mandi at 22.30 in the night. This bus will cross Karsog - Luhri and you can get down at Bitthal. Bus will reach Bitthal around 6 in the morning. It will be dark at this moment. You can try your luck here and look for a shared taxi to take you to Thanedhar. (approx 22km) The route from here is Bitthal - Bhutti - Thanedhar. Better option would be to travel to Rampur in the same bus (coming from Mandi) arr Rampur at 7.15 am. From Rampur you will get Rampur - Narkanda bus at around 8.45 am which arrives Thanedhar at around 11.30 am. There are two buses in the morning from Rampur to Narkanda, one via Nankhari and another via Thanedhar. Make sure to board the correct bus.
Also just do a search for Mandi to Rampur here and look for the buses via Karsog. Click on the bus routes for detailed journey route. You have to get down at Bitthal which is just 15 minutes after Luhri. Plan in such a way that you reach Bitthal latest by 3 pm in the afternoon as the last bus for Thanedhar leaves here at this time else you will have to rely on shared cabs or taxis. Only problem I can forsee is if it snows by mid Feb, road after Karsog at Kelodhar would be closed. You will have to come via Shimla then. I have seen a bus from Kullu to Ani via Mandi, Tattapani, Sunni, Luhri route (basically the same route from Sunni onwards as from Shimla) it reaches Luhri at around 5 pm and from Luhri you will have to take a cab to Thanedhar, an hours journey. Couldn't find info about this bus online. Will try and find out from Ani bus station and post later Hope this helped

certainly chail - stunning scenery all around. but not that close to shimla. took us four hours on a very difficult hairpin-bends, winding road.

And yeah .. all you have to hope for is that it doesnt snow and getting to Thanedar shudn't be a problem but if it does then it could throw all your plans out of gear . Also arriving at 6 am at Bithal will be of no use as you will find noone or nothing to take u onwards from there ( its just a shack there ) .. wud be better if you follow his other advise about heading to rampur and then taking the morning bus to Thanedar and again making sure its via Bhutti and not Nankhari ( this route will take ages ) . Are you planning on staying at banjara camps ? |
