Question Angling in Himachal

Hi everyone,

I am planning to go to Himachal during November with my wife. What are the possibilities of angling out there? Are there any tackle shops in Himachal? We want to go to some remote places there provided there are some scopes for angling angling. Could anyone one help me out? My stay in Himachal will be for four to five nights.

Hi

Hi,

TROUT

Chirgaon (Pabbar Valley) Place to stay at Rohru

Tirthan Valley .. Batahad is possibly the best place .. get in touch with the local guide called Bikoo there... The best angler in Himachal ... Then you can also try Gushaini, and Nagini. Nagini has a place called Himalayan trout House a place where you can find rods and the likes.

Sainj Valley ... Larji is a good spot and further up the valley Neuli is a good spot .. PLace to Stay Rest Houses for which the booking is done through GHNP

SAngla Valley .... Good Trout here between Rakchamm and Batseri .. Get in touch with Pradeep (Kinner Camps) However it would be cold in November.

MAHSEER

BArot is the best place in Himachal to go for Mahseer . Then nearby Palampur.

Tattapani.

Enjoy,

Cheers,Dhananjay

Angling in Himachal

Thanks Dhananjai,

I will definitely check these places as per your advice.
I would like to know one more thing.
I have learnt that fishing permits are required and there are restriction periods also.

Is it possible to go out for angling in November and what types of fishes are available during that season?

Do you have the addresses of Himalayan Trout House or the angler Bikoo so that I can talk to them in advance before I leave with my fishing tackles?

Any way thanks a lot for the information. It will help me find the perfect place to go for angling there.

Cheers,
Bhaktijananda

I would also strongly support Barot as a destination, went there a few years back and i just love it...back then ofcourse it was very secluded, must have grown a bit now.

I dont think there are too many options in Barot..only a few guesthouses, that's where we stayed. You could always stay at Palampur or even Jogindernagar and make a day trip to Barot..

Is it legal to fish in India ? You dont want those PETA - Maneka Gandhi types hounding you.

I love falconry but it is banned in India for some reason.

I stayed at Gushaini. Accomodation was at the Himalayan Trout House run by Christopher Mitra. He is a seasoned angler and the food was also great. I have never seen such clean ice fed water in my life. Decided to visit there every year.

Hi Dhananjay, are you an angler?

Hi,
I roamed a lot of places in Himachal. Did some angling. Nagni, Gushaini etc. The best catch was at Nagni village. Caught around 6 brown and rainbow trouts in an hour. Amaging place.

I had been to Sangla valley also but at that time the river was in bad shape. Here is one of the pics at Sangla

Cheers,
Apoo

Tirthan valley

Thats an amazing luck you have to have caught 6 trouts in an hour....You must be a seasoned angler..
I just came back from Nagini..stayed at Christva's trout house..Obviously chose a wrong time to visit..too many land slides..11 hour drive turned out to be a 17 hour drive due to some landslides in Swarghat, took a route from UNA..
But definately had a fantastic time in Tirthan valley..
Did you carry your own fishing gear??
