Dilliwala!!!!
In the past I said you should open a travel agency....But now you have shown your true talent ....as a detective! An incredible bit of investigation here.
Yes, I had begun the journey along the same path as you, without finding the answer. Where was Devidarh FRH? On one list but not on another???? Has it fallen down from old age and been removed from the list?
But on the list for Dharamshala circle!?! That beats it all!
How you found it I'll never know . My admiration knows no bounds.
You may take it that I have been MOST effusive.....You deserve it.

To tell the truth, I'd even got to the stage of looking at Chail Chowk FRH as being the next option.
Now the question is, which list is right? The Kullu contact as supplied on this last link you found or the Nachan DFO ph 1907-250267 one? We are just a phonecall away from the solution. And hopefully Kapilankar will manage to do that. Still plenty of time.

Whilst searching for info the photos I've seen of the area have made my mouth water.
Ever been that way Dilliwala? You've been along most roads in HP I reckon.

Kapilankar, your last post was posted just as I was answering Dilliwala. So now I see you have made the call I referred to and the answer has come in a second. Good work!
The Jannat GH in Devidarh looks wonderful, but is way over my budget....And yours no doubt! No way can I find any other info on local guesthouses so what you've been told that there are a few is comforting. I may well make my way up there earlier and just chill with a book and some exploring. There appear to be lots of grass meadows to rival Shangarh around there! And the height above sea level perfect..... Similar to Ghiyagi.
I'm getting excited at the prospect.
I myself love old FRHS, as long as there's running water and electricity......So I'm happy to stick with that option.

Oh dear. So the hpforest pdf is correct, that it is under Nachan division of Mandi circle. And the Ecotourism page, the one we're supposed to believe, is incorrect. Oh dear.

As I indicated - Google is our friend.

So, we are supposed to believe the Ecotourism site. On account of the HP Forest Dept having specially initiated it for the specific purposes it covers. And more so I suppose because of how deep the pdf is buried on the main website. As if we weren't supposed to find it at all.

What I missed last night though (it really was late ) - the lists on the Ecotourism site are as on 31 March 2006. I had in fact noticed that, and then promptly forgot. The pdf on the main site, I notice now, is as on 31 March 2015. The pdf itself was created on 23 Nov 2015.
So, the site which we are supposed to believe has info that is 11 years old, the site which we're not supposed to really look in has info that is 2 years old. Welcome to Indian bureaucracy.
In other words, we'll just have to follow the most recent, which also checks out with what kapil reports from his phone conversation.

Stupendous. Mandi district doesn't get as much PR as the other more famous ones, perhaps unfairly. It certainly seems to have its hidden gems. *

I have indeed been in the neighbourhood, a good while ago. Driving from Shimla to Manali, a guide book I had (Nest & Wings) listed 3 different routes. I didn't want to go the boring way up the national highways, via Sundarnagar and Mandi - that was to be my return route to Delhi anyway. So out to Dhali then up via Mashobra-Naldehra-Tattapani-Churag-Pangna (bypassing Chindi)-Rohanda-Chail Chauk, joining the highway at Pandoh. Slow going - in fact ended up staying the night at Aut. But certainly worth it; in fact the GH at Aut was right on the bank of the Beas and we could hear it rushing past all night.

* Another time I drove Mandi-Bajaura-Manali the back way, via the Parashar route (in fact I'd wanted to see the lake, but in the end there wasn't time). Serene. Missed all the traffic upto Bajaura. In the bargain got to see a few picturesque little villages along the way.

This is why I end up believing IMers more than what I dig up on Google A more reliable source!

I had read your account of trying to drive up to Parashar Lake and getting held up by roadworks. Funny you should mention it, as I was thinking about revisiting the lake this trip. On my first trip up to HP in 2006 I went there to find it in thick cloud.
I´ve since seen Tarun Goel´s amazing blog accounts and his trek from there to Tunga Mata, which has made me think I missed quite a bit! But that was a winter trek and I coudln´t expect to get that visibility in June. Also, having seen how popular it is now with IMers I might find a problem getting a room at the PWD or FRH up there at Parashar in June, right?
Close by I want to visit the Shukdev Rishi Mandir, Thatta, accessed from Pandoh, also see in Tarun´s blog.

Before I leave the subject of Parashar I have to admit it was the birth of my passion for Himachal. I was staying that first time at the Raj Mahal with a friend. We were the only guests. At dinner there was a celebration dinner, a group of elderly Indian couples. One grey-haired gentleman approached us for a chat....it turned out hé´d previously been governor of the province and obviously loved his homeland. On answering his query about where we´d been that day, he looked earnestly at us and said " Ah yes, Parashar......very beautiful.....but Himachal has 1000 places even MORE beautiful than that!"
I was hooked from that moment. And you know, he was RIGHT.

It's a matter of giving it a try . Check a week or 10 days before.

I wanted to point you to Janjheli for some future trip. And Baila RH. Which was on your FRH list and reminded me how lovely it was.

The Jhanjheli (Baila) GH looks to be perched nicely on top of a hillock overlooking Jhanjheli. Is that the case Cinta Alam?

Greetings Kapil........Yes...On the other side from the road and right next to the trail coming down from the Gada Gusheini hike. Very convenient.
If you PM me your email I'll send you the photo I couldn't manage to attach here. It's a very smart place, though old and with a lot of character. Has one suite upstairs reserved only for ministers and other VIPS. Dhabas are close by if you don't want to bother the chowkidhar.

revised itinerary

I've revised my itinerary for now. It still needs some fine tuning and I need some advise.

-x-x-x-

Sun 18-06 - Mandi to Rewalsar - Explore Rewalsar and relax
O/N Rewalsar

Mon 19-06 - Rewalsar to Naina Devi and back via Tso Pema caves
O/N Rewalsar

Tue 20-06 - Rewalsar to Mandi to Parashar by local transport
O/N Parashar

Wed 21-06 - Parashar to Pandoh (trek) - Pandoh to Chail-Chowk to Devidarh by local transport
O/N Devidarh

Thu 22-06 - Devidarh to Kamrunag trek and back
O/N Devidarh

Fri 23-06 - Devidarh to Shikari Devi trek and back
O/N Devidarh

Sat 24-06 - Devidarh to Chail Chowk to Ner Chowk / Pandoh by local transport
O/N Pandoh

-x-x-x-

Queries:
1: How does one get to Devidarh? According to Google Maps, the road from Jahal terminates much before Devidarh village.
2: Devidarh to Shikari Devi is a 7km trek either side. Is it feasible to return the same day or maybe stay a night at the temple?
3: Are there any accommodation options in Pandoh? What about Ner Chowk? I've a few friends coming up to Manali on 25th and I plan to meet them somewhere on the highway.
4: How feasible is the detour to Parashar and the trek from Parashar to Pandoh?
5: Is Pandoh to Chail Chowk feasible? Are there any transport options available?

-x-x-x-

@ Cinta Alam I believe you have a similar itinerary for the Devidarh circuit. Let me know your plans as well so that I can tweak mine if needed.

Thanks!

1) Er, walk?

3 & 5) There are jeeps between Pandoh and Chail Chauk. Maybe the odd bus. There are small hotels at Pandoh. Consequently there's no need to go to Ner Chauk on the 24th.

Not personally. I've only seen them while driving through.

Looking at the map again - the road to Devidarh seems to go almost upto the village (it is a bit spread out). E.g. it doesn't look more than 500 m upto Jannat Home Stay to me. Why don't you give then a call, specially to ask about transport options?
You may get direct transport at Chail Chauk itself, or may have to change a few km down the road at Shala. And if the jeeps only go upto Jahal, that's 2-3 km walking.

Yup - I'll give them a call a bit later. They have listed a route on their website, but that info is only upto Jahal. Will have a word with them and the good people at the Nachan forest office too.
