hi all
last year in the first week of august i visited leh. this time around last week of august or first week sept. iwaana visit lahaul-spiti. can any one guide me which route to take-
1- manali-kaza-tabo and back or
2. move fwd to kinnaur valley and then to shimla and back to delhi.
approx how much time would i require for both the routes.
or in reverse from shimla to kinnaur-tabo-kaza-manali-delhi

i have presented a very rough sketch here coz iam still in the planning mode and need help to plan my trip.

I am planning to drive in to Spiti and hopefully spend a few days in the villages..there is a great thred on the Spiti forum which gives details of the homestays programme in Spiti..do try and look for it.

Dhananjay and Andreas are our house masters for all things Kinnaur and Spiti..they'd hopefully provide you with the right answers..

Ooops, I'm one of the "housemasters" here.... That's new...

If you are not on the run, you need minimum two days by jeep from Manali to Tabo! - Yes, it's a lot to view in Spiti. Look our Spiti thread

I'm not sure about the road conditions at the Maling block near Nako. If the new road will be ready there, you need further 2 days through Kinnaur till Shimla... But you have nothing viewed! - Spend some time in Spiti and Kinnaur! - It's realy worth...

Think the charges for SUMO and driver/day are 2000 INR upwards...
If you need help or more suggestions please contact my friend Khushal or another agency.

Kinnaur - I'm also coming in August again....!!!

So long

Thumbs up Shimla-Peo-Kaza-Manali

I would suggest that instead of starting from MANALI-start from SHIMLA end.
Why ? beacuse by the time you enter in KINNAUR and after visiting SANGLA and CHITKUL and then turns back for HT road for TABO- you are well known to the air and life on road.

I have been from both sides but going from MANALI end always gives me bit shock as as soon as you cross ROHTANG- views changes and green color of KULLU VALLEY is only memory you have......all of a sudden hard and harsh realities of traveling comes infront of you.

But when I started from Chandigarh and then SHIMLA-RECONG PEO-did KINNER KAILASH CIRCUIT- landed in CHITKUL-again did a one day trek to a further deep in VALLEY ( Place called NAGASTHI ) and turns down to river and followed it to SANGLA and KARCHAM.

Started drive to HT road and then entered SPITI and then LAHAUL....this was always more comfortable and relaxing than otherway round.

Rest, depends on you...anyway..this is wonderful region provides many many options...to experience life !!
