A suitably attired gent in Himachal

Hi folks. Here's the gen:

I'm going to Goa for Christmas (for a couple of months) but want to spend a few weeks in Himachal Pradesh. Now,I've been in Thailand for four months and pretty much all fo my clothing is for the warm tropics. Does anyone know where I can buy warm clothing before heading into the hills? Will I need to stop off in Delhi to do it?

Thanks,

RII

you have to stop somewhere to but warm clothes...do you think you have any other option than Delhi ?? like are you stopping in Chandigarh...OR some other city ?

Mind you around Christmas Delhi gets pretty Chilli too...maybe less than 5 C

If you are not too fussy, and are not going up too far into the hills, maybe you will get a few things in Goa, with difficulty.

Otherwise, for much more variety or serious winter clothing, Delhi is a good option.

I am planning to stop in Chandigarh, yeah. I'll have a look there. Otherwise I'll shiver in Manali until I can find something.

Cheers,

you will shiver as soon as you enter Northern India...if you are not used to low temperatures then anything below 10 C can get very chilly indeed..

Are you in Thailand now? If so go to a big Central store where you can buy jeans, boots and jumpers - I even bought a ski-type sweater there one year.
Good hand knit Tibetan sweaters can be bought in McLeod Ganj and Kullu shawls are available all over Himachal and are a good buy for both guys and gals.

Thanks chaps.

I was actually in Darjeeling and Sikkim last May and survived with a pair of walking shoes (real Merrell ones from home) and one of those fake Puma jackets (the ones with the three stripes on the arm) that I bought in Darjeeling.

I'm from the north of England and most years I wear a t-shirt from April to September in the UK, however I do understand that it's a *lot* colder in Simla than Sheffield.

You're from Sheffield and support Forest? My other half's from Manchester and supports Forest. What is it with you Northerners?

No, I'm from Nottingham, but I spent most of my formative years in York. I used Sheffield because it alliterated nicely with 'Shimla'. It was a decision that I suspected, at the time, that I would regret.

Everyone loves Forest.

Anyway, what's it with you Southerners all supporting Man U?
