9 Days in Kangra Valley - Need help to plan

Hi. This is the best forum for travel info. within India. I congratulate all who do meaningful contributions to help others discover India. After much browsing I decided to join and serve the cause of spreading information and joy.

Before I do that I need help in planning a 9 day trip to the Kangra Valley reaching Chakki Bank on 13th October 2007 from Delhi (already booked by train)and back in Delhi on 21st Otober 2007(train ticketing not done). I am travelling with my wife, 2 kids (4 & 1) and parents.

Can you suggest a good itinerary that can take into account the following:
1. Quality over Quantity
2. Train over Road
3. Peace & Tranquility over Adventure

It would be great if you could also suggest stay options (medium budget; occasionally high is OK), Infant friendly and Clean.

Hi Been some time that I have put out a query but did not get any replies. Let me try once again. I have worked out an travel plan. Need your comments and suggestions
1. 13-Oct / Pathankot - Dalhousie Arrive at Chakki Bank Station. Proceed to Dalhousie. Check in to the hotel and relax. (Stay at Grandview or Mountain view (Can't decide)

2. 14-Oct / Dalhousie - Khajjiar - Chamba - Dalhousie Full Day sightseeing to Khajjiar & Chamba. (By Taxi)

3. 15-Oct / Dalhousie Relax and visit few local sightseeing spots (Churches, Barkota Hills, Kalatop view points etc.) and shops in the evening.(By Taxi)

4. 16-Oct / Dalhousie - Palampur Proceed to Palampur. Visit Neugal Khad & Bundla stream (Transportation by Taxi) (stay at Hotel T-Bud)

5. 17-Oct / Palampur - Mcleodganj Day Sightseeing to Chamundadevi Temple and Palampur Tea Gardens and then drive to Mcleoldganj. (By Taxi). Stay at ????, Need Help (Budget about Rs.1000/- Dbl)

6. 18-Oct / McLeodganj Visit museums and other local sight seeing by Taxi

7. 19-Oct / McLeodganj Visit Dalai Lama Temple, Bhagshu Nag Temple and in the evening visit local shops by Taxi

8. 20-Oct / McLeodganj - Chakki Bank Proceed to Pathankot by Taxi

Travellers: 2 (Aged 30 to 35 M&F) + 2 (Aged 55 to 60 M&F) + 2 (Aged 1 to 4 Kids)

Hi the itinerary looks gud,in mcleodganj you can stay in hotel Tibet,pretty decent place.

hmmm, "Peace & Tranquility" is not what you can come to expect in all the destinations that u've listed, so if u are ok with loads of boisterous tourists, haggling with hotel owners and taxis

I will go with kinky...your destinations are full of traffic and noise.Golden rule for peaceful vocation in himalayas is LEAVE THE ROAD.

Otherwise- your planning is fine. Weather is changing very fast ...get ready for some chilly nights !

Can you reccomend a good place to stay in Dalhousie & Mcleodganj. (Rs.1000/- to Rs.1500/- per night, double. Would be great

if it is lesser but cannot compromise on the cleanliness & views).
I have checked out at Pema Thang, Mcleodganj & that's sold out.
