"I do Simla to Narkanda in 1 hr easy !!! " and your post in another thread last year where you've said you've done it in "just under an hour" even. Having done the route myself a few times (in a 4-wheeler though) and having seen the number of curves AND the lack of retaining walls and taking 2 hours or close to it myself, I KNOW it's not a one-hour road even if that's all it takes you. Therefore I think it's irresponsible of you to be claiming it can be done, and easily - please remember that the same plains-drivers who you complain about (and rightly) will read your post (some of them) and think "hey, there's info from a local resident, if he says so it MUST be correct!" and then attempt to do it themselves. I think you are better aware than me of the consequences that some of these drivers end up facing. Quote:
BUT what you had posted previously in #12 were different figures. You omitted to mention in #14 that you had quickly revised your figures after reading my #13 - your original #12 figures (at 2.16 am) are being copied/pasted from my personal email inbox below (forgot that setting, didn't you? And how lucky for you that you were able to amend #12 before the 1 hour deadline when the "Last edited at " line at the bottom would have forcibly kicked in): "Simla - Narkanda - 2 hrs , max 2.5 hrs Narkanda - rampur - 1.5 hrs max Rampur - Sarahan - 1 hr max" (Bold effect mine) 'Nuff said. Yes, I know what the min. and max. adds up to, I DID read them yesterday before writing #13. But then I was reminded of what you wrote in #10, and I quote: "Seems u have ur calculations way off ... Simla - Sarahan is not more than 4 hrs ( stretched )....." (Bold mine). I take it stretched means the same as maximum. We now therefore have 3 different max. times from you for the same run - 4 hours, 5 hours, and 6 hours (your first max. time actually being less than your first min. time ). So which is it - 4, 5, or 6? Do you expect people to take your numbers seriously when you keep changing them? May I ask you to follow your own advice in #10? And I quote: "lets not post info that we not sure about as it can confuse a first time traveller in planning his itinerary . Lets not post for the sake of posting . Thanx" P.S. If you doubt the correctness of your original #12 extract as reproduced by me from my inbox, I am more than happy to forward it in full to a moderator for verification. Hey guys lets not get into argumentative mode, both of you have enough knowledge about the areas you are talking about so let's provide the best and most accurate response to the members, thats what this forum is all about.

As long as I live, I will bash away at one point - DON"T DRIVE FAST IN THE HILLS. That's basically what I was doing above, and will continue to do at every opportunity.
And I don't think pointing out inconsistencies is arguing. |

I am amused by this 'four legs good, two legs bad' concept which implies that all drivers born or living in the hills drive better there.
There are many bad drivers in India, including those who have never driven anywhere else except in the hills. As for speeds, taking an average of about 35/40 kmph, including stops in most hilly areas is a good thumb rule when on holiday. And if you want to average- or try to- 70 or 80, please make sure that when you hit me, only a maximum of one of us survives ![]()

in connection with which, mine's even shorter (the thumb). 30 kmph average - if I do better, great; if I do worse (and often the road-surface ensures that), I'll live it down. |

Dilliwalla @ As for the post being edited .. I didnt do that realising you had already replied to it -- I was re reading my post and then noticed that I didnt put the max time in the latter 2 sections of the journey . So Big deal if I did edit but it defintely wasn't due to the fact that i read your post . As for missing the edit time details -- I know that exists and I wudn't be dumb to make a statement knowing that one could figure that out .
As for my 1 hr stints ... Im was not wanting people to try it and if they are stupid enough to think that they can then its their problem that they are stupid !! 4 hrs max posted earlier ... I did miscalculate that a bit as I calculated it at my speed . 5 hrs is what it should take at a comfortable speed and 6 - 6.5 is what a bus usually takes !! Discussion is healthy ... :-) !! Quote:
And the stupid habit in a traffic jam of city drivers to try and jump the entire line and get to the front ... thinking they at some traffic light which ends up creating an even longer jam . As for average speeds .. its what each one is comfortable with . 30-40 would make me go to sleep on the wheel in the hills so each to his own . But yeah a bus does an average speed of 30-40 kmph so if you were referring to that , then I guess you are right . Cheers |

Buses are more often than not hard-pressed to keep up an average of 30/h. 25 is more usually the case. I do Dehradun-Mussoorie v.v. regularly and for the 32 km distance 1 hour is the norm for cars, but the buses take 1:15 to 1:30 even. And that on a very good road.
