1 week: Himachal Pradesh or Uttaranchal or both?

Why dont you take a Toyota Qualis 8 seater and do your Delhi-Dehradun/Mussorie-Nainital-Almora trip. No need to worry about the Public Transport and Trains etc.
Will Cost you Rs 6.5-7 for non ac.c per km (200km per day minimum) + Rs 100 tip to driver per day for his meals and night exp.
Thats the best way to explore, yeah you wont enjoy a Toy train in that case.

Marino, don't worry about Mussourie. Its no big deal, given that you are covering kumaon. So, don't go to Dehradun. Just go to kumaon - Ranikhet/kasauni/Corbett, my choice. Shimla toy train is cool. If you choose the Shimla region, do Chail/Narkhanda/Kufri.

So, either Shimla region or Kumaon. Leave mussorie.

Marino, I feel you are trying to cover too many places in just one week. The hills are meant to be enjoyed at leisure; and not be covered in a hit-and-run manner!!

Go anywhere - H.P., Uttaranchal, J&K, West Bengal or Sikkim; but do not try to cover more than two places in the limited time you have at your disposal.
