Your Indian comfort food

Hi guys, did anyone have a favourite pre packaged safe food. Something you could buy packaged nearly India wide which would substitute a light meal in the absence of anything else or when you're sick or weak. Something like a muesli bar. Any recommendations?

Packaging food is OK in India but packaged meal is not Indian ethos.

All the pre-packaged Indian food that comes to my mind is sugar/carbo/fat rich!

Muesli bars are actually loaded with sugar (in some cases more than chocolate), but at least you know they're safe when you're feeling tender...

Yep. Bananas are on the agenda. Pringles have been saviours in other countries, as well, when I've been sick.

when feeling sick - crisps and Coke/Pepsi used to be my cure

Nowadays I stay with the healthier option...bananas

flat fizzy drinks are the next best thing to proper rehydration salts if you can't get them. Coke would be my last choice ---but then I never did like the stuff, anyway!

Good things when you can't face anything else:

Idly --- very, very bland, although served with a veg 'curry' (samba)

Curd rice --- a great stomach settler. Usually eaten with salt and strong pickles, I suggest the 'baby' version for a bad tummy: eat with some sugar or a mashed banana.

My favourite Indian comfort food: Payasam

My favourite comfort food in India: fried eggs and chips (a lifetime's history!)

Papaya and curd. Both are great for comfort and are good medicinally if your stomach is wrong. Buy a clay pot of curd; find the market, buy a papya; cut papaya in half, scoop out seeds, fill both hollowed halves with curd.

Nothing calms me down like a good...........

Idly.

Some say you, the noble idly, is bland.

Great to have in the morning when you're feel'n good or bad.

Travel well in your purse. OK...may-be just for a couple of hours.

Wish I could make them here, but have tried and FAILED miserably. A mixed dried packaged thing + water = batter poured into an aluminum mold, then steamed.

They were like rubber matzo balls, slightly tangier.

I like mashed potatoes when I'm not well. They don't come in a package though, at least not in India. Served with peppermint tea I find them the perfect cure for almost any ailment.
