Yet another Malaria Question...
Hi all -
Just found this site and am so excited! I lived in India for 8 months during my junior year of college about 3 years ago. I'm almost positive I took Malarone for anti-malaria. It worked well, I had little-no side effects. I was happy. Now I'm heading back to India for a year. My boyfriend will be there for most of the time so I'm looking for an anti-malaria drug that does NOT lower the effectiveness of birth control. I know doxycycline (sp?) does. I also know I don't want to take Larium due to the potential side effects. Here is the question - in my research, I'm now finding that Malarone isn't supposed to be taken for more than three months at a time. Does anyone have any suggestions? Know of some other drug I can take? I really appreciate it!  |

If you've read the threads on malaria prophylaxis and other immunizations then you've heard this already - please, go and talk to a doctor at a travel clinic, it's the best source of the best information.

If you had taken Malarone for 8 months it's most painful (and unforgettable) reminder would have been in your pocketbook, would have run into many hundreds of dollars.
