Hi all,
My mom and I will be travelling to India later this month, in particular to Rajasthan. I was just wondering how safe it is for women to travel alone in this state. Should we hire our own driver to drive us to the various cities or travel via train and deluxe buses? and how safe are overnight trips in buses and trains? I'm sure that travel within the cities themselves will be very safe. I'm just worried about the long journey between the towns, for example between Udaipur and Jaislmer. If anyone has any personal stories or advise it would be greatly appreciated and would definately make our trip more enjoyable Thanks ![]() |

Welcome to IndiaMike!
Shouldn't be a problem so long as you dress modestly and take your "street smarts" with you. There are probably 100 threads here about women travelling alone in India; You might want to search for them. The latest might be a sort of blog from Travelerette, who is from your area; she's in India right now. |

One good recent thread on the subject: http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...s-wear-t46858/
Another: Solo Woman on Overnight Sleeper Train? Tavelerette's travel notes: http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...-india-t46019/ But there are, indeed, many, so search around.

U r absolutely right. Please be careful about ur dress. It's good to wear a decent dress. Hey ! i can give u a better idea. If u take my advice then i will say that, first thing u do here is to buy a decent indian dress. Its good if u buy a Salwar Kameej. that will fit u in and that too look decent. Most of the lady wear this in India. and ofcourse u can have a great experience about indian dresses. and i bet u would like to take back home maybe 5 to 6 pairs of these. ha ha ha....! Dont worry. as long as u look decent its fine. But people here are very helpful. But some goons make it look so badddd. I hate those people who dont respect others. Enjoy.....and have a safe stay in India. byeeeeeeeeee ![]() |
