Wiping your ass in India

Leaving in less than a week and I have read over and over toilet paper is only rarely used in India. So what the hell am I supposed to do if I'm caught w/o toilet paper? Really. I have no idea other than it has somethign to do with one's left hand. I had serious problems trying to figure out how to crap in Paris back in 1986. there was a hole and some foot rests. I was never good at puzzles.

i remember reading in tropic of cancer (or capricorn?) one of henry miller's friends taking a dump in a bidet because he didn't know better. i'd like to not do sometihng like that.

any tips?

i know it's an uncomfortable subject, but not as uncomfortable as walking around with crap on the back of my pants.

thanks

There are honestly very few places on the tourist trail where you won't find toilet paper and in many places, if you look around you'll find wet wipes!!

Stick a couple of rolls in your pack for those "little emergencies"
Other than that, just buy as you go!!

Like a lot of things to do with India, the question of toilet paper or the lack of it, is completely blown out of proportion!

Incidently the tourist trail is pretty big these days so there's a lot of places to buy toilet paper
In mid/high range hotels you'll find it in some rooms and even a few budget places will supply you with a small roll if asked!!

Don't worry about it D.B. thou ass shall be wiped........and well

Of course the "Indian way" with water is SSSOOOOOoooo much better but that's another thread
I supect even some Indians are using toilet paper these days, though I confess I haven't asked

Cyberhippie's right, don't bother with paper......as well as being environmentaly unfriendly, it's a lot cleaner, and hey, the Chinese invented toilet paper, and they don't use it.....that tell you something?

lol..looks like the tourist season has started ...and the yearly toilet habits review...

newspapers
corn husks
tree leaves

are options

water is best..and if you dont find water you will find coke and pepsi.

and yes..TP is available in many places.

and no, regular indians dont use TP. and i dont think our sewage systems would take it if everyone one us goes that way... good old hands sir!!!!~...

if you want some challenges..
try the indian ones in a fast express train....its fun and must be experienced...the hole moves really fast and the footrests are shaking...and the water pipe is located at such angle that this could have be been how the first yoga pose was invented.

nope! ..the trials and results have to be verified by third parties...and its going to be published in a major reputed travel journal. ..maybe a health and sciences journal too. and then a patent for the whole process.the approach, the angle, the size...thats it no more.
