I cannot quote research, or even point to the article where I read this, but the microbial population of your keyboard, unless you are an absolute hygiene fanatic, is, it seems, much more likely to make you ill than your toilet seat. And yes, part of it is to do with nose contents. Hands up those who never pick their nose while sitting at the computer. Err, right. Didn't see a single hand.

Hm. Not really. Mrs. M. complains I sneeze at the screen though. (One of those modern things that no one knows how to clean. The manual tells you you shouldn't using conventional methods. It just sadly neglects to tell you what to use instead.)
ps Opening a beer can in front of it isn't a good idea for similar reasons.

Opening a can of beer in front of the screen sounds like a perfectly unconventional cleaning method!
What I hate is the people that point things out by sticking their greasy finger prints on your screen. My screen and my spectacles are about the only things I do bother to keep clean! It also occurs to me that the danger to health probably comes from other people's keyboards! One's own is just recycling the same germs. And I'm just noticing how grubby mine is ... |

He's not joking! I've known an engineer to do exactly that with a coffee-filled keyboard!

![]() Now I'm more aware of the fly that is visiting my keyboard, attracted by grunge, and coming from.... It's a wonder I'm still alive, really! |

Are we not all becoming a bit anally retentive (or is it anally expressive)?
