dear all,
i am visiting mumbai on the 23rd and moving to goa the same day for 2 weeks. I am travelling from Egypt where Malorone is not sold. Do you know any pharmacy where I can get Malorone in Mumbai/ Goa ? Or any doctor I can see and get the medicine the same day ? Any help would be appreciated. Last edited by machadinha : Dec 22nd, 2006 at 08:33. @ Miss.goa_friend
MALARONE gives you the protection you need almost anywhere you travel.
It been proven to be an effective medication against an infection...and a new anti-malarial drug. India (except Assam where risk is high; no risk in mountain states of the north) Visitors to all parts of the Indian subcontinent, except for the high mountains, are at risk of contracting malaria, both in rural areas and in some cities. As per post i understand that your visit will be Mumbai/ Goa and MALARONE is not needed at any of these places. Welcome to India Feel the vibes of the mother land. |

Try asking for proguanil hydrochloride. In India, it is always easier to refer to the generic name than the brand name.
Secondly, I am not sure about Malarone's availability in India. Why not doxycycline?

Malarone - where can I get it from Mumbai/ Goa?
I will be in Mumbai tomorrow. Although I will be in only in Mumbai, Goa and Delhi I have decided to take Maleria tablets and I started with Malarone. I would need one more package (ie 12 tablets)so that I can complete the duration, it is proving to be impossible to get this from Cairo and so I would appreciate if you know any pharmacists or doctors in the region that sell it. I am quite worried.
many thanks Ozzy |

From past posts it appears Malarone is not available in India .Can't help feeling ,why not
Possible reasons are ,1/ cost ,it is quite expensive ,so therefore not a big market .somehow doesn't ring true. 2/ It appears to be very effective as a prophylactic as well as treatment possibly it is being held back,to stop the local parasite getting used to it ,and making it less useful as a treatment ? Just a thought . |

No more information on Malarone ?
Thanks for all the people who replied. I am unlucky, it does not look if anyone knows sonmeone who may sell Malarone.
I will start calling the main pharmacies in Mumbai, maybe I will be lucky to find Malarone. Still if you know any key pharmacist/ hospital I should look please let me know. From 24th I will be at Palolem beach and I guess there is not much pharmaces there . kind regards Ozzy |

You won't get it here. Take doxycycline, readily available and cheap.

From my knowledge, Malarone is not available in India... not sure why. In your search, do ask for the generic name. You will probably not find it in Goa as mentioned above. I spent quite a bit of $$ buying mine in Canada.

I brought Malarone but didn't take it. I kept forgetting so I gave up. I only was bitten once even though I saw lots of mosquitos. The mosquitos are quite lazy and didn't seem to be interested in biting. Personally I didn't feel that mosquitos were worth worrying about at all.

you just cannot be serious . The mosquito carries a deadly disease which causes misery for thousands of people every year .It appears that you are one of the lucky with a chemical make up which doesn't attract them ,but do not forget that it takes only one bite !! |

They get 'lazy' in the colder and hottest times here --- but we are currently in our Chennai 'winter' and I was bitten several times yesterday. Remember that biting is part of their life cycle. They need a blood meal when they are going to lay eggs. It isn't like Hmmm, shall I eat veg or non-veg today; heck I can't be bothered chasing the non-veg! ---They are definitely interested in biting! If you are one of those happy people who don't get bitten --- i envy you! If you are one of those people who do get bitten but don't notice because your body doesn't react --- I still envy you. But remember that not reacting to the bites doesn't mean you won't catch the diseases. |
