this thread is a hypochondriacs dream, describing all the symptoms to get...
apart from malaria, which i luckily came down with upon my return to australia, my next best thing was ghastly small pimples around the bottom of my spine that were stingingly painful. if i squeezed the little buggers, which i can't resist doing to pimples, they suddenly grew into huge lumps and even more painful, making long distance bus trips on wooden seats "rather a chore". as a side effect of some homeopathic medicine,(which doesn't work, i have been informed on another thread) i took for something else, they desisted but left scars. i forget the name of these dreadful things but apparently they can erupt again and need to be actually cut from the body. i did have a minor recurrence a few years back and that is how i got that information....next

My most memorable India-illness is that I've never been ill in India . . . almost three years in country, nothing to report . . . sorry

I think it must have been what the kitchen swore was safely filtered water. When I finally realised that I couldn't on my own handle the constant running to fortunately western style toilets where I was studying, a clever local physician fixed it by just giving me 8 hours of intra-venous infusions of all possible sorts and a few.

Next time, I stuck almost religiously to bottled water, and had no problems.
