Salmonella, E coli, etc... probably just as likely to catch it from precooked supermarket food in Europe!

Dysentary! Ate a mango for breakfast, and 15 minutes later it was floating in the toilet!

Projectile vomitting in the scum at the Delhi airport. It continued onto the plane forcing Alitalia staff to call a doctor. One of the most unpleasant experiences of my life.

Deafness for three weeks in Goa from an ear infection. First I would know a motorbike was behind me was when the slipstream pulled at my clothes when they passed. Very scarey time.

Bad guts eh?
Okay... first got 'bad guts' in Rishikesh and then proceeded to spend the rest of my two months doing some pretty explosive and crippling toilet trips.
I once vomited for absolutely no reason in Rishikesh and it was all down-hill from there. i think it was due to a bad Tali. When I got to mcloud Ganj (many weeks later), I eventually did the sensible thing and 'talked' about seeing a doctor. A fellow traveller persuaded me to take a stool sample to the chemist that was in Dharamasala. So i poo'd in a cup, wrapped it up in paper and sealed it with sticky tape. I then placed the contents in a brown paper bag and jumped in a jeep with my sample. I was crammed in with about ten other people and was very self-cosncious of 'it' smelling. I then headed down after leaving the jeep and proceeded to walk around with my turd for about an hour as i looked for this chemist. I eventually found it after getting lost and then realised the chemist wasn't even open. But, the doctor actually took pity on me and prescribed some stomach tablets and what-not and simply told me to throw my poo away. |

It was just an average dose of food poisioning, high temp, POUNDING head, but I happened to spend the whole day throwing up on my birthday of all days
I eventually mustered up enough strength to crawl down to the street and slump into a rickshaw off to see the doc. After a stern looking receptionist and doctors whizzed past ignoring me for the next 30 minutes I remember thinking that my head was going to explode all over their floor ANY second, and what the hell was I doing in India anyway? Finally a 3 minute consult and script, a pharmacist looking at me like I was something the cat dragged in, back to hotel finally, ahh......peace, calm, quiet. The highlight of my day came later in the afternoon as I waited patiently in the que to buy a train ticket. After a half hour wait I was feeling like a vomit session was on it's way verry soon. As I finally reached the front of the que I came over all queazy and had to run out and vomit into my trusty plastic vomit bag. I slumped down outside, looking a disgusting sight, trying to regain my composure...I felt somethign warm dripping all over my foot...the bag had a hole in it, happy birthday to me I thought ![]() |

Just a cold
I'm happy to say that I've just returned from 3 weeks in Sikkim and not once was I sick from food or water. I did, however catch a brutal cold that I still can't get rid of no matter how hard I try....*sigh*
Funny enough - the pizza I was craving on my return home was the food that made me good and sick! Cheese overload on a stomach that was set for rice!! |

I was in india for one month, just came home the 5th Dec. The food poisoning I got there was really something to remember, but still I would say that the infection I had in my eyes was pretty nasty as well. It started in the end of the journey so it didn't get too bad until I got back home. Had to use those antibiotic eye drops for 14 days, 6 times a day, before I was fine...
Oh, and at the moment my ankle is swollen and the doctors have no idea what's wrong with it. All tests have been made, but they don't know. They've said it's a stress injury, but I haven't been walking for two weeks now and it still hurts! Thank you, India. |

My first visit to India May 2006 (Mumbai & Goa) saw me carrying toilet rolls & 'wetwipes' everywhere. By day 6 I had constipation ......... (this to a twice a day person was so surreal when I was actually expecting the total reverse) Honestly I was sensible and have nothing to report other than the aforementioned......

The bacteria have to multiply to a point where they start causing your body serious hassle. So a whole glass-full of that infected water gives them a head start.
A few drops only, and your immune system might win the battle before they get ahead. I'd rather a few drops on the glass than have it wiped! Tea-towels anywhere in the world are homes to huge quantities of bacteria. But I don't know what happens to the bacteria if the glass is left to dry: does the dehydration kill them, or do they reactivate when wetted again? |
